So someone contacted me waiting me to watch her son four days a week for $150/wk. I had to tell her that even if someone worked for $10/hr it only pays for a day and a half in my opinion?
I mean maybe I’d do it for $300? But the $150 I just can’t see if being worth it to me
Daycares only charge $150 or so a week. So depending on the circumstances it may not be worth it to her. That is a lot a week to pay. Now that’s why you have to watch multiple children for it to really be beneficial to you financially.
I would just politely respond that your rates are $xxx a day/week however they work and that you hope she finds someone that fits her budget. Maybe she just doesn’t know what the going rate is or she just can’t afford too much. We used to pay $10 an hour for a regular in-home sitter, but it was about 20-30 hrs a week. It worked well for everyone involved (they also brought their own child).
Wow. In San Diego I used to nanny and would charge $20/hr and made $140/day x5 days a week. Our rent for a one bedroom was $1700 though so bc cost of living is higher so is income. I tell all my unmarried without kids friends to nanny bc it’s great money!
Another thing to consider too is places that are 30 a day probably have a few kids at a time so 150 a week for one child may sound low but say you are a center watching 5 children then it is more. But from what I've seen 150 seems to be the standard
A lot of places where I'm from (PA) do 30 a day per kid but I think most places make you provide the stuff for your child too, I'm not sure if that's considered cheap or not because we never ended up needing childcare.
Yes my daycare charge 150 a week n they are whole business.
Lmao if you think people can afford $300 a week for one kid, damn. I pay my sitter $20 a day for my 2 kids and I can hardly afford that! My paycheck is $450 every 2 weeks and I pay her almost half my check!
It’s pretty normal here. It’s a fairly wealthy area. I’m in apartment but it’s million dollar homes so it makes sense. I also clean homes for $100 each
Our daycares our around 200 a week and I cant even afford that lol. I think it depends in where you are and what's provided. If it's not worth it to you that's totally up to u. When I had babysitters I'd pay $20 day but now we work shifts where we dont need a sitter. I couldn't personally afford $300 wk but like I said different states and areas very. What you charge is totally up to you. If she cant afford it oh well. They also offer free daycare and head start services but only accept so many so my daughter didn't get it last year haven't tried this year. Its for people who can't afford it I guess lol not sure how it works.
Know your worth. I wouldnt do that. You have to take your own expenses , gas to get there etc into consideration . A woman paid me 50 a day for 4 hours .
I pay $240 a week for full
Time care and 2 kids. I do know that’s a great deal though.
I definitely think it depends on the area. I pay $15 per hour for my sitter 3 days a week. And she (along with many of the other people I contacted) charge $600 a week full time for 5 days. That’s for two kids though. The daycares around here charge $160-$200 a week per child at the cheapest of places. And to be honest, I would expect to pay an at home sitter more than a daycare. You’re hiring an individual to watch only your kids for the most part instead of a daycare that has multiple kids per adult. If you were running an actual at home daycare with multiple kids from different families, that would be a different story. Just like you said, if the going rate is $10 an hour where you live, I probably wouldn’t accept $150 for 4 days a week either.
Exactly
I worked at a daycare funded by United way so it was a sliding scale but teachers paid around $500 a week, for a very small two room daycare located inside of a high school.
Actually daycares in the area are double that. Churches are different also due to funding and help from the actual church. And yes everyone I know as a nanny is receiving around these type of pay in this area. $500 a week in my last nanny job and about $100 a day
@scruffy.nerf.herder, But that's like what a few days outta the year...MOST time he's in school all day. So really your only getting it that cheap those few days, any other time it's just afterschool care. Do you see my point? They take the loss for those COUPLE days you need them full time and still charge you the same amount for the few hours a day you USUALLY need them.
@leonardsquared, we do! Its been a blessing! It’s located at a church, and I think the church helps fund so the daycare can operate without contracts for the school age children. Infants & toddlers are on contract since they are daily year-round. But daycare for school age kids is more challenging to find because they’re not year-round, so I think the church made that part of its mission/outreach work.
My mom always helped out when she could watch him, but then she moved out of state and I was in tears trying to figure out what I would do for snow days, scheduled days off of school, and early release days. Then this daycare opened and has literally been our saving grace.
This country certainly needs a better system for childcare. It is a struggle for so many families 😢
@scruffy.nerf.herder, Damn the church ran preschool program local to us wanted $150 dollar deposit and $200 a week and it was only 3 days a week!
@leonardsquared, yeah preschool was different. We paid $700 for 1/2 day preschool MWF at a Catholic school. There were several kids from my son’s daycare that attended there, so our daycare lady picked them up for the afternoon at her house. (We’ve been through five daycares, two different towns). I loved this in-home lady the best. But during those two years of preschool, we were paying for school & daycare 😬
For what it’s worth, I think paying for preschool is worth it. It prepares children so well for kindergarten 👍
My sitter watches my kids for $40 bucks a day 😂 the one before that was $53 a day, and the daycare before that was $65 a day. No way would I pay someone $300 a week for an at home sitter job. For ONE kid. Even private school in my area isn’t that expensive. Nope. I would take the $150. I mean you have to understand that you may not get any business having such high prices, when they could easily enroll the kid in a 5 star daycare for less than what you’re asking. I don’t know. Just my opinion!
300 a week for a daycare center 150 a week for in home I’m home daycares are way less
That’s unacceptable. I’m a nanny where I live and I make 100,000 a year working full-time. Granted I am college education and have all types of certifications. A babysitter in our area is making at least $20 an hour.
@amandamduval, Our office workers bust their asses. It’s not as easy at it looks. They are the backbone of our school. $13 is far too low!
And honestly I’d take $300 for the 4 days it would just be a little low
@oggirl.mom, she seems set at $150
The way she talks it’s her husbands choice which, men don’t usually take the time to price check. Mine trips out at the grocery store as if everything is supposed to cost 50 cents lol
@garay88, we do Montessori at home with my 14 month old
Daycares only charge $150 or so a week. So depending on the circumstances it may not be worth it to her. That is a lot a week to pay. Now that’s why you have to watch multiple children for it to really be beneficial to you financially.
Yeah here in Philadelphia, they charge about $150 a week maybe even more
What daycare you going too ? 🤣 6 hour day here for 5 days is no less then 275.
I know prices vary but I’m in Georgia too. And for newborns it’s 150 weekly but for toddlers it’s only 85 weekly. I do live in a small town though about 3 hours away from savannah
Before making this post I forgot how rates and prices of everything changes per state or even within the state, which also makes me mad because if I told you all the rent prices where I live you’d flip but I guess you don’t notice when you live here your whole life. My friend up north pays like $600 a month for her HOUSE rent and down here 1 bedroom apt is roughly 1100-1600 so it sort of puts it into prospective. Cost of living simply changes per state. Daycares here are also expensive.
@amandamduval, I pay almost 1800 for a 2 bedroom , bills, and 150 for care a week.
If you’re in Cali and charging 300 a week, You better have some type of degree in childcare and physiology. Be CPR certified and at least provide a lunch.
@cuppacoffee, funny because my major was that but I didn’t finish I have a year left roughly but yeah cpr
@cuppacoffee, and yes, last job was $500/week but they are in school now
My son’s respite worker only gets $13 an hour for him and I actually feel bad like it’s not enough. I was going to have to pay $400 per week for one infant if I had gone back to work, even daycare/preschool was $300 a week. I’d negotiate, make sure food/snacks is taken into consideration etc before agreeing to anything
@amandamduval, personally as someone from Texas and living in Texas I don’t think the 150 is bad but if you want go up to 200 if that makes you feel better
I usually charge $100 per week per child. But that's because they provided their child's food, diapers, ect. I'm not licensed & I'm a sahm so $150 imo would be good pocket money.
Depending how long the days are but I pay 150 just for a day if I want their nanny to watch them
I only get slightly less for my niece's but my sister is a single mom. I'm not licensed and it's extra money 🤷🏼♀️. She ain't gotta worry about her kids 😂
@raisinglittlegamers yeah my sister could afford more, since she and her husband both have very good jobs. honestly if I could afford it, I wouldn't charge her at all. But the $350 covers any food they eat and gives me gas money. And she knows that her kids are well taken care of since her youngest is semi verbal autistic, he wouldn't be able to tell her if he was being mistreated somewhere.
@mswedes, I was just thinking my husbands not going to let me be out of the house 4 days with the baby unless I’m bringing home at least $300 otherwise it’s not worth the stress or hassle. I didn’t even think about being pregnant yet
@amandamduval, I had hyperemisis with both of my kids so I was vomiting non stop. It was terrible. My morning sickness hit literally the week before I started. I had to tell my friend I was pregnant at 7 weeks because I ended up having to get fluids 2 days before starting.
@mswedes, I had HG last time. This time I’m still sick but feel different and I’m not sure if it’s still early or maybe I don’t have it this time!
What I do have is major dislikes for food
Good ness $300 a week! I charge $20 a day for 1 child. I watch a little girl 4 days a week and charge her $160 for 2 weeks. I would gladly accept $150 for a week especially if your not a licensed daycare.
@scruffy.nerf.herder, how is he there all day if he's in school?
@leonardsquared, like I said in my comment if you read it- this is the rate I pay for snow days (when school is cancelled) and for summertime childcare. He is there all day on snow days and in summer, not at school.
@scruffy.nerf.herder, PLEASE don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. I'm not. I can read.
I pay $105 a week for 3 days a week. It all depends on the person. If you don’t think it’s worth it don’t do it. But maybe she’s also short on funds.
I’m not sure, she found me ima group that’s for a pretty wealthy neighborhood but either way people usually charge 12-15, in some cases $10/hr but that’s still $100/day.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
TWW!!
2dpo and on the tww journey. Anyone on the same dpo or close? Haven't decided if I will test at 12dpo or just wait and see if she shows up!!
