I have my 2 1/2 yr old daughter who still breastfeeds but i really want to get her off of it already. I’ve tried before but no luck. Any suggestions on what might work from your experience? Thanks.
I wish I had a better answer. My daughter was 3 (stopped in January of this year), my middle child was two months from 3 before he weaned completely. First born was easier due to me not producing enough milk, he was about 9-10 months.
I used to give her on demand but this week I’ve just given her some before her nap and to go to sleep. A little improvement and i hope she can stop on her own as well.
@ethanandkayleensmommy, yeah as she got older, she only wanted me for comfort and nap time.
@ethanandkayleensmommy, @chocolatechild, my daughter never drank any cow’s milk until she was 100% weaned from me and even then it had to be chocolate milk. I tried many times but she just didn’t like it.
Oh wow. Cow's milk was my way of weaning her from me aside from prayer. I prayed that she would stop being attached to breastfeeding and one day, I nursed her and when she was done... She turned away (which she never did before) so I knew that was a sign that she was completely done and she was
@chocolatechild, oh, well I wasn’t wishing her to be done at all! I was letting her self wean and she was done by 2.5 on her own. I’m letting my son do the same unless he gets to age 3 then I’ll have to cut him off. I’m cherishing this time with him especially since he’s almost 2 😢
What about whole milk? Whole milk and prayer worked for me
I give her milk but she will only drink a little bit. I think because she cant get use to the sippy cup.
I weaned my son slowly. Started cut session. By the time we stopped I wasn’t in any pain.
Yeah I’m going to start off slowly and hopefully it works.
Wean her down to just morning and bedtime then drop the session that she doesn’t care about as much. It might take some time. My daughter self weaned and she was done by 2.5. First she dropped the morning and only nursed at bedtime, then it was bedtime only 3-4 days a week til finally she just stopped altogether. It was gradual over a few months.
Yes thats what i did yesterday, She only had it for bedtime. Hoping it works!
My daughter will be 3 march 5th and iv been trying to quit for 6 months we made it 5 days but i was hurting so much so i had to let her eat it sucks
Yeah im not looking forward to the pain. I’ll just have to squeeze it put in the shower lol.
@ethanandkayleensmommy im not able to hand express anymore i tried to lol but i havenr had to pump or hand expeess in so lomg that my boobs are use to her so im gonna try the cabbage trick see if it helps me. Your lucky you are able to hand express it out lol goos luck
Great job nursing that long! My son still “nurses” while I sing him two songs and rock him then I put him in bed. I don’t nurse to sleep anymore (as of a month ago), he just had to get used to it and he figured out in 2 days how to fall asleep. My milk dried up around 28 weeks so it’s really just him sucking for comfort. I can’t be nursing him to sleep and nurse a baby for nutrition. So I’ll let him nurse if he wants to after the baby does but I’m hoping he’s like ew milk, since he’s not used to it.
I wouldn’t cut your daughter off cold turkey, she’s old enough to understand if you told her she can nurse only once or twice at whatever time you choose and just say “not right now” when she begs throughout the day and take her to do something she really likes, coloring, reading, snacks etc. Just do less and less slowly and within a week you can probably be done!?
I just found out im pregnant so i know my doc is going to tell me i need to get her off. I’ve tried telling her not right now but she just cries and cries. I just have to keep trying and i know eventually we will get there.
@ethanandkayleensmommy, will it be a high risk pregnancy? My doctor told me to wean my son also and I changed doctors bc I was tired of hearing it. You have to do what’s right for your family. Some Drs don’t believe in extended breastfeeding and some do. It’s not bad to continue, I’ve talked to lots of doctors nurses and midwives with this pregnancy and most all of them say continue if you want to! You don’t HAVE to do anything. Unless it will harm your new baby then of course listen. But the preterm labor talk is crazy imo.
I breastfed my daughter until she was 2, she just didn't want to get off of the breast milk lol it took me going to the hospital to have my son, she stayed two nights without me at my grandparents. I think u should let her stay a couple nights with someone close to you
Ive thought about that before, my mom even offered to help me with that.
@ethanandkayleensmommy that's the only thing that worked for me...
My youngest was 1.5 ish when I quit. I had to do cold turkey. She wouldn't drink any milk. She didn't start until like right at 3. I told her she was a big girl. She didn't need mommy's milk anymore. I almost caved just because how engorged I was.
Also totally recommend cold cabbage leaves. I swear. Life saver for my boobs
@raisinglittlegamers, I’ve caved in various times. What are the cold cabbage leaves used for?
@ethanandkayleensmommy
It's helps dry you up quicker and it feels good. It helps with the engorgement
Cold turkey. She will be pissed or sad the first couple of days, offer cuddles instead of boob. The best advice I can give is to be strong and to not give in. Tell her what a big girl she is and maybe get some new fun cups to drink out of.
If that’s what i have to do then so be it. I love her but its time. I dont know if its bad but i just put coffee on my boobs and told her it was poop 💩 lol. She currently doesnt even want to see them😂
If she is food dependent then go cold turkey 🤷🏾♀️
I didn’t wean my kids I just stopped and she was fine .
But introduce another type of drink in a cup she picks out.
Try like avena (oat milk basically)
Or liquified porridge some thing that is super filling and she knocks out without the boob anyways.
Lol no clue mine just turned 5 and still on it 😂 it’s getting old
Lol i need to take her off because im currently prego with my 3rd and it need to be done by the time im 20 weeks. Have u ever received negative comments? I have😐
@ethanandkayleensmommy, lol no I dont think anyone knows 🤣but idc
No experience with it so I can’t offer advice. BUT I just want to say how amazing I think it is that you breastfed her for so long!
Thank you. We went thru a lot with her since she was 6 months with her heart surgery so we are very attached.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
TWW!!
2dpo and on the tww journey. Anyone on the same dpo or close? Haven't decided if I will test at 12dpo or just wait and see if she shows up!!
Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
