Soo the pediatrician in the hospital wanted me to feed baby this high calorie formula and pump in between if I wanted , but my baby will NOT take the formula / bottle she just sits there mouth open not sucking but when I give her my breast milk she actually perks up and uses her tongue and mouth like she prefers it , should I go ahead and just breastfeed instead of pumping and trying to force her to eat formula she isn’t wanting to take.. I feel like breast milk would have more benefits ? Does it not ? I’m just trying to do the right thing but don’t want to risk her losing any weight with her already being tiny.
I’m going to ask the doctor today because she’s doing very well breastfeeding and if she’s gaining weight there might not be the need for the formula
I'm not due what your issues are but breast milk is actually amazing and will help with her levels.
My little one is 6 days old and has a bad lip and tongue tie he has trouble latching but will. We do both breast and then if needed he will get formula only because he has lost a pound since he was born.
She’s only 4 pounds and has lost some weight so they want me feeding her this high calorie formula but I’d prefer to breastfeed and so does she , she spits or gags when I give her formula but will take my boob but the doctor was really persistent about me giving her this formula before I even got to try breastfeeding when I had her.
@mskye4 do breast first then formula 2nd. Not trying to tell you want to do
Breast feed your baby, my twin girls are in the nicu but they are getting my breast milk through a feeding tube. They are only to get breast milk nothing else
I'm a mom of 6 breastfed all of them thru jaundice and everything never was told formula was needed....I say breast fed her! As long as she is having enough dirty diapers she will gain weight. Trust your gut!
Does your hospital have a lactation consultant on staff? I would think getting her to eat however she’s best at eating would be the priority. Maybe an LC can help bridge the gap between what the doctor/nurses are saying and how your baby is feeding best.
I have a appointment Friday with one and her actual pediatrician tomorrow so I’m gonna see if it’s okay to just fully breastfeed like I planned since she prefers it.
I didn’t plan on bottle feeding her so I just have the little bottles they sent me home with and these breast feeding bottles but the nipples seem to big for her mouth to suck. We just came home today but it seems more like she wants breast milk than the formula they want me to give her.
I would do both. Below 4lbs is VERY small and the Dr is just trying to help her
