I had my youngest daughter 9 weeks ago and I’m sitting here thinking that my birth story may be helpful to a first time mom who may be reading.

At 37 weeks, I began leaking the tiniest amount of fluid. It equated to being a teardrop amount every 15 minutes. Consequently, I visited my doctor and followed up the following two days with “are you sure it’s not amniotic fluid?” She repeatedly insisted that my test was negative. The drip continued and after four days I decided to go into labor and delivery. Their initial test was negative so I asked that they actually LOOK AT THE FLUID UNDER A MICROSCOPE.

A team of doctors and specialists(anesthesiologist etc.) came into my CURTAIN ROOM 😅 because the second look confirmed that my four day leak was due to rupture of membranes. The technician went ahead and took my temp while they were there and there had been a dangerous spike (40 minutes after arrival) My body was beginning to fight off infection (now cue the panic and elevated blood pressure). I was looking forward to having a VBAC but was rushed in for an emergency C section instead.

In a nutshell: Dear mama, your intuition is your first line of defense.
