Soooo.... Tried Noah on some baby rice today (he's 4 months next week) as he's been showing signs that he's ready. Wasn't expecting him to be that interested but he loves it! Doesn't spit ant out and every mouthful leaves him with a huge smile!
If you are going to wean. I see you not taking any of this info on board anyway. At least put him in a high chair :) don’t give rice as it has no nutritional value.. and will just sit in the stomach.
You might as well give him something that will benefit him such as veg :)
If your baby doesn’t have any medical reasons to be weaned then don’t.
There’s honestly no reason to wean him.
Because he’s a big boy or drinks 8oz isn’t a good enough reason....
Please research weaning and the effects of early weaning and why it is 6 months. If after you still feel you want to wean then go ahead but it’s at your own risk.
I think it’s just ignorant to start weaning without actually researching it.
The baby food says 4 months that is going to be changed soon but the weaning age has been 6 months for like 15 years or more!
Earliest to wean is 4 months based on medical reasoning. E.g reflux!

She was holding her head from birth
Could sit 3.5/4months
She weighed around 16lbs at 6 months
She was always feeding, but that’s what babies do :)
I still didn’t wean her before 6 months :)
She was crawling at 6 months and walking around furniture by 7 months 🤷♀️
@zoeslater1704, that’s the thing though, you won’t know if those babies who’ve been weaned early are ok until they’re older. How many adults do you know who suffer with heartburn/indigestion, gall bladder issues on a regular basis? There’s a good chance they were weaned early.
When I had my older children the guideline was 4 months. My eldest son was 3 months and the health visitor told me I had to start him as he was drinking too much milk. He's 17 now and 6ft tall. Never did them any harm
Yeah, Noah's on 8 oz and still wants more, he's always been a big water and he's a big boy too for his age, every one is always thinking he's 6/7 months old
Plenty of people I know have weaned their children at 3/4 months old and they've survived! 😂 Noah is a lot cleverer than what people assume, he's been able to support his head almost from birth, he's been able to sit unaided for weeks now, he no longer has the tongue thrusting reflex (which I've read is a sign of being able to eat as they can now keep food in their mouth) and also, the box of baby rice and plenty of other baby foods say 4+months 🤷🏻♀️ I don't see the harm, I'd understand if he was 1/2 months old 😂
4 months when medically advised. And to be honest it doesn’t look like he can sit unaided at all. Sitting unaided is when you can sit them in the middle of the floor with no cushions of supports or you holding onto him like in this picture. That’s my son at 4 1/2 months old.
It’s not about being clever Zoe. Jaxon was 10 weeks premature and was still holding his head up early. And I’d have never in a million years fed him food before he needed it, just because he was supporting his head early. If he’s still hungry after the milk you’re giving him, try hungry baby milk.
And as for “plenty people do it and they’ve survived” I really wouldn’t want to risk anything with my child just because other people have. Open gut is a real thing.
No one is bashing you, but honestly I’m worried for your child 😕
Definitely shouldn't wean until 6 months unless medical advised. Even when medical advised you should wait until at least 17 weeks.
He should be sitting unaided, and have a keen interest in food. When I say keen interest I mean he should be trying to take things out of your hands when you're eating/drinking.
He is getting everything he needs from milk until he is one so there is absolutely no need to wean so early, food before one is just for fun
Babies get all they need from milk at this age! There’s really no need to give them anything additional :)
They can stay on milk the first year without any food! Food is just for fun!
Maya wasn’t interested until around 9 months she didn’t start eating properly until after a year :)
She’s always been top centile for weight and height! She was happy and content on just breast milk until the age of 2 :) that’s when she started eating more consistently x

I agree with the ladies weaning shouldn't be done until 6 months unless medical professionals advise to do it earlier. My daughter was sitting unaided at 2 months but was 6 months until I BLW. she was able to sit in her high chair and feed herself. It can lead to all sorts of problems in the future like food allergies problems with gut etc. X
I think it’s far too early to be weaning him. Guidelines recommend 6 months, 5 months at the earliest.
At this age their system isn’t mature enough to handle food. It puts their kidneys and digestive system at risk as they are not mature enough to cope. Also as babies are unable to sit and hold themselves straight there is a risk or choking and food being inhaled into the air way. It always heightens the risk of food allergies, coeliac disease and diabetes.
Please look into why weaning is done at 6mth and not 4mth and you may understand everything @beebeejgill is saying ,

Watching you eat or opening his mouth if you are eating doesn’t mean he is ready... that’s just normal development and curiosity:)

Trigger. Our precious boy Last night, December 8th, 2015, at 9:58pm, our sweet precious baby boy was born sleeping. We spent 5 wonderful hours with him: holding him, talking to him, singing to him, mourning him, praying for him, and weeping over him.
So we decided on a rabbit. A friend breeds them and is actually giving him to us for free! He's about 11 weeks old. Going to pick him up next month 🤗 *Not sure what my 12 year old is going to name him yet. Stay tuned.
They took him away so they can circumcise him. I hope he's doing okay... I'm nervous. 😕😖😔😞
