Sorry for the long post/rant. Any other step moms out there feel like they’ve literally given their SO and his kids all they had and then some with absolutely zero appreciation for it for so long? And technically, I’m not even a step mom. I’m his gf...of 7 years...and now I’m just such a horrible person because I’m trying to put myself and our daughter first...does that make me a bad person? I mean I still do a LOT for the boys and him. I don’t treat them any different. I still treat them as my own, I just don’t push myself to the breaking point every day trying to go above and beyond to compensate for the things their bio parents won’t do. They have a dad, a mom, and a step dad...so why was I the only one doing anything?

I never had any kids of my own while I was a “step mom” (gf of 5 years) but definitely felt the same way. Towards the end I still loved them and cared for them as my own but I stopped doing extra. It wasn’t until the end that their bio mother realized exactly what I did for her children and even then I only got appreciation from her after we split up.
