To come into the life of a single mother and her child. And to think you can just step in as "dad" and parent the children especially when you have different morals and parenting techniques. You can't do that!! Have some respect. And then to top it off, do and say things that are not appreciate around a child. Someone ELSES child. Yes he calls himself dad and calls my son, son. But i never needed a DAD figure in my son's life and someone to take charge. I got it and been had it long before. I just want and needed someone who is by MY SIDE. Who is with me and cares deeply for my child and wants to be there if he ever needs to talk or and to be his support system. But to take over, to over rule his PARENT, to over talk her. Etc. Isn't ok. This is why boundaries are supposed to be set before that man steps in her household with her child. And I was the fool who never didntill a year into it. Not 3 years down the road what i say is like all they hear is a joke. Not even sure if counseling will work with someone who doesn't DO and doesn't recognize REALITY. And the reality is IM a single mother who is dating and living with her partner and has a child with him but I also have a child with someone else and the boundaries need to be kept in place. I'm not ready for someone to be full on "his dad" especially with our parenting styles being so different. And to tell someone this who can go into a depressing state and think something is wrong with them in minutes is hard. Probably why I haven't said much. I've hinted and kind of said something but I haven't sat down with him and talked to him. Not to mention all of our other issues. But falling back on parenting my son is top priority. Then we can work on us. I really hope I can find a counselor and we can work on things. But as for right now. I'm single as it gets for the time being until things change. I just wish I could say things. even though it'll hurt that person's feelings only because of their own insecurities. But it still needs to be said. Because I will not go on like this

Honestly. I'm sure you know that this should have been talked about in the beginning. My fiance and I had this very conversation before we even moved in together. I gave him the green light to help me parent because her father isn't here. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. With all your other posts about this guy honestly the best advice I can give you is to stop having kids with him and move on. What's the point of cohabitation if you feel like a single mom.

That's also why I said we need to fall back and JUST act like we are dating and get help with our communication and learn how to compromise. Because how things are right now, they won't go forward. And technically I am a single parent. I'm not married. I'm dating. I think to just take a few steps back.

I feel like starting a relationship with someone you talk about these things, because being a blended family is difficult. Even though it wasn't talked about I dont think you can expect him to only parent his kid when currently you have two kids in the home. To me its a team effort, being a step mom to my husband's kids I did a lot of parenting but its all about communication. If you two communicate better to get a more clear understanding of what you expect from eachother maybe it would make things easier. I would sit him down and have a serious conversation about everything. Let him know how you feel, what is acceptable etc.

That's what I want to do. Sit down with him and have a real conversation about it. Because I do agree to a point. I just have a hard time with someone else disciplining my son. I'm over protective of him and it's hard to let someone else in and help with him. Especially since my son has issues of his own and my partner doesn't understand them. Part of the reason I'm so protective as well I think. Also why I think counseling. If nothing else hopefully works.

I don't think you should be in a relationship with someone that you don't agree with their parenting style. Couples are supossed to work together as a team and sounds like what ever he does you don't agree with. If you live with someone you cannot expect them to not parent your child. They themselves are an adult and are apart of your life. If you only allow him to parent the child that you two share then there is going to be huge issues when your children get old. As your first child will not grow to respect the adult that you yourself also treats like a child. Sounds like some growing up on both your parts needs to be done.
