Stupid question but how do you keep your 1 year olds away from the older kids toys that they're not supposed to get? we are having a hard time with this and now my 3 year olds birthday is coming up and he's going to be getting more toys and we don't have a lot of space here so every room is jammed like closets, basement and garage full of toys, its the only place we can put them, but we can't constantly go back and forth and do that. Anyone have any good ideas on how to do that? And I know you're all going to say throw some away but a lot of the toys he has is good stuff, I mean I guess we could go through it again, but we go through it every couple months

I packed up the toys my son doesn’t play with and also got rid of some. But if you want to keep them then let them go through the ones he plays now and pack away the ones they don’t play with.

Ok but what do we do with the others then? We either put them in diaper boxes or toys bins. But babies still get to them. I'm also trying to figure out what to do with the car tracks and bigger stuff the babies still can't touch. I feel bad for my son, we have this tiny little corner he plays in that we have blocked off from babies. But when babies are here he can't play with the bigger stuff or out in the open unless he's behind a closed door in his room alone. And he doesn't really like to do that.

Why aren’t they allowed to touch the older child’s toys?

They can but most have small parts they can choke on. That's the main reason I need to keep them separated

ahhh I understand. That is tough.
Start going through toys and donate some that will free up more space. As far as the little one what your doing will work until they’re a little older.

@bearsbeetsbattlestargalactica yeah it's just a pain in the butt because they are always trying to get to his toys lol

I was def going to say to go though some of his toys. U can even save them for the little ones for when they get older. Maybe his new toys can stay in his room? Idk just a thought. I understand cause when my oldest was getting older he was getting smaller toys like shopkins and legos that the younger one couldn’t have because I was afraid he would choke on them. So we kept those toys in his room away from his brothers reach.

My oldest doesn't really have his own room anymore. The twins are in there to playing. We don't have a separate playroom. So it's the living room and the one small bedroom

I pick and choose my battles and trying to keep toys separated isn’t a battle I’m willing to do. Plus I think it’s very important they learn to share not only with each other but others as well

It's not the sharing I'm talking about, it's the small parts of all my older kids toys I need to keep away from babies
