So question for ladies who have had a episiotomy, any tips on how to help the healing process anything that helped make it a bit easier?
Thought I'd ask people on there own experiences 😊

Drink plenty of water/ fluids so your wee is diluted and then it won't sting. And keep the pain meds topped up. I also sat on a pillow on the sofa x

I used arnica tablets to help with bruising, and dosed up on painkillers. Baths really helped but try not to overdo it with those as my stitches ended up undoing, possibly because of that 🙈 ... Also the warm water in a squirty water bottle when u pee, altho I found if I relaxed then it didn’t hurt too much to go. xx

Pads in the freezer/fridge for when you wee it was a life saver for me when I had to have stitches but tbh I wasn’t in that much pain with mine it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be x

Pour a jug of Luke warm water over while you wee. Magic. Also lavender oil. Mine wasn’t and episiotomy mine was a really really bad tear. He cane out with his arm up like superman. I tore front to back. Just had gas and air with him. Within minutes of him being born they gave me a spinal and I soent an hour and a half in surgery being stitched back up.

The midwife told me to get lavender oil (can get it from boots £5) and to put it in the bath every time, it used to hurt when I went for a wee so I used to use a pad and I pressed it against the side which had the stitches xx

@abbiiqx, it helped me so much with mine! Both things did! But also, my stitches weren’t healing proper and I was in agony with them xx

Use detol antiseptic in your bath to help keep your wound and stitches clean. It will also help the stitches ease up a bit. Take it easy and try to rest as much as possible xx

@abbiiqx, i used to use a pillow to sit down as well as mine were really sore after having forceps so it made it a little easier to sit and get up xx
