I went to OB today to be monitored due to cramping , they did an ultrasound and baby is measuring 5 pounds 4 oz already ... My kids were all 6 at full term . I mentioned this to my friend and she said that’s big for gestational age. I never had diabetes testing they just skipped over it and now I’m worried

I wouldn’t be to worried. I gave birth at 37 weeks and they did a ultrasound right before I went for my emergency c section and they said she was measuring 9 pounds and she was only 7 pounds 10.4 ounces. Ultrasounds can be off up to two pounds my doctor said.

Ultrasounds aren’t really accurate st that point. But my preemies were born at 33 weeks and they both weighed 5lbs

Thanks ladies makes me feel better ! I am def going to ask doc to do my glucose test still

My son measured 6 pounds at 32 weeks and was born at 9 pounds 6 ounces last week (39 weeks) he’s considered an “LGA” baby or “Large Gestational Age” and I didn’t have GD. I make big boys my son JJ was 2 ounces shy of 10 pounds lol That being said it’s not always accurate they said my daughter was 8 pounds and she came out just under 6.

big baby maker here too lol, baby girl was 8lbs 15oz I had no gd and no blood sugar issues with her... I honestly thought she was smaller than my son (8lbs 11oz) lol

@bluepenguin, All our little chubby wubby babes 😂🙊 Not even kidding the nurses couldn’t find a newborn knitted hat to give our son that was big enough!
Jami··
same here! Hahaha she brought back a knitted hat that people donate, it was definitely roomy enough lol

Thanks ladies ! I guess I’m just thrown off because I never had baby born bigger than 6 pounds some oz

This is my third pregnancy with GD. First was born at 39 weeks- 7lbs 5oz
Second born at 38 weeks- 6lbs 7oz
This one was 5lbs 2oz at 32 weeks and at my 36 week ultrasound on Monday she was 7lbs +. So I guess sometimes having GD makes big ones but my two others weren’t big.

I had GD and my son was born 7pounds 8oz. At 36 weeks a couple days from being 37 weeks they said he was 7pounds 4oz.

It depends on your genetic testing you did in the beginning if they don’t see a issue they won’t test sometimes for diabetes but if they see issues in blood work they will but that don’t mean nothing wrong your baby could simply be chunky at birth this might just be the big one of the bunch
Maria··
Girl I’m really hoping so, tomorrow morning I have a doc apt so I will let them know my concern ! I’m hoping she’s just a chunk !
Priscilla Pouncy ··
she will be if her head doing and hips shows normal you will indeed have a chunky baby or it make just be fluid around her as well
Kimberly ·
That’s huge to me, but as a baby I was only 5lbs 5oz and my first was 5lbs 11oz at 40 weeks. Ultrasounds can be wrong though.
