This is for all the moms in New Jersey
I just moved here from PA 5 months ago... DYFS (DCPP) is in my life now over my boyfriend’s family. We live with them & for the past 2 months his mom & dad have been putting us down & they are taking things away from my boyfriend basically car insurance & trying to kick us out with our baby... The one night My boyfriend & his dad got into a physical altercation.. & my son was upstairs sleeping (thank god)... so once his dad told us to get out the next day we went to special response which is something where they put you in a motel if you are in danger of being homeless but instead they called DYFS.. Now DYFS is involved his dad is still trying to take his car insurance away.. Now my boyfriend will lose his job, have no car to get food for our baby & everything... what would you do in my situation? The most I been doing is working with DYFS but I don’t know my rights here in New Jersey.. I just want what’s best for my child... because it seems to me his parents wants our son to get taken away.. do you think they are trying to get grandparent rights?

& my boyfriend can’t afford car insurance right now due to low income so please don’t come at me saying my boyfriend needs to be on his own when his parents offered to help us but now they are going back on there words.. I just need advice no criticism..

You can call your case worker and tell them you need help! They have to give you info on where you can get help

I’m not sure about the housing, but I do know (long as they still have it) that if you have NJ familycare for health insurance that the state also offers low cost car insurance that is less than I think $100 for the year. Maybe something to try and look into.

I'm not sure if it's the same where your at but the local Catholic charities can probably help point you in the right direction. I know ours has lists of landlords and phone numbers you can call and numbers for the income based housing places. My sister lives in an income based apartment. It's a two bedroom and it's honestly a pretty nice apartment. She pays 20 bucks a month plus electric because she has no job. She found the building through Catholic charities and they helped her with other stuff as well. Like furniture and where to get free diapers and clothes for her daughter. They really helped get her on her feet.

@bambismallz No. My sister isint religious at all. She hasn't been to church since she was a baby. They didn't ask her anything about her religious beliefs or if she goes to church.

Apply for housing now. The wait lists are ridiculously long. Is there semi-decent transit where you live so you can get around without a car? Maybe a coworker can carpool for a few bucks of gas? Apply for aid, like food stamps and maybe even daycare assistance, if you both have to work. Start searching for apartments, even if you have to get a studio or one bedroom to afford it. Even a small apartment is better than living with them.

Apply for housing aid, tell bf to get his own car insurance, comply with DYFS.. but, what's the reason DYFS is involved? If you feel like sharing of course. Apply for government aid until you get on your feet.

I’m thinking DYFS is involved because my boyfriend told special response what happened between his dad & him while my son was in the household but he was sleeping upstairs but still my son was in the household during the time of physical altercation. & what is housing aid?
