My husband is 50 percent italian so were trying to plan an italian themed first birthday and im so beyond lost. I got that shell be eating spaghetti and meatball but aside from decorations and the fact that it needs to be indoors due to her birthday being in the peak of fall. Ik we need to save so we can afford the party invites and maybe party favors but im from german decent and other than italian flag colours were out of ideas. We are aware of the traditional smash cake but were always too lazy to bake and too broke to spend money on a decorated cake thats not meant to be eaten lol. I see a lot of first birthday ideas so creative mamas bring your flow my way.
Instead of traditional party favors (which many people don't save anyway) we printed out a bunch of pictures from kiddo's first year and just let people take whatever they wanted. We also did most of our decorating with pictures that we taped together and put all over the house, which people loved to look at. Food can also be decoration - keeping with the Italian theme and flag colors should be fairly simple. And smash cake? If you don't care for it as a tradition, go ahead and skip it. Our kid had one and didn't know what to do with it so it was just sort of a waste of a cake. A messy meal of spaghetti and meatballs sounds like a fun twist on a smash cake anyway!
In the end, the birthday is about your baby girl - not the guests or the decor. Do what you are comfortable with and have fun with it! :)
Idk if there is a Publix where you are but they did a free smash cake for my daughters first birthday with the purchase of a regular cake. That way you only pay for one
