Random question.

With my first I started producing/leaking around 20 weeks.

I never pumped or breastfed, so the milk went away rather quickly.

This time, I’m 36 weeks and I’ve not “leaked” or produced any milk so far.

I’m wondering if this means if I’ll have a harder time? Wait longer? Every body & pregnancy are different? The milk will / should still come in eventually?

Oh and I had c-sections with both. Didn’t supplement with either. With my daughter it was 2 hours after she was born before I could latch her but with my son they let me latch him about 30 minutes after he was born. Colostrum is all they need for the first couple days. No need to give them formula.

It’s not necessary to leak during pregnancy, it has nothing to do with supply. You won’t start producing milk until after your baby is born. I never leaked with either pregnancy and I breastfed my daughter til she was 2.5, had an oversupply actually. And still breastfeeding my son, he turns 11 months next week, and I have no supply issues.

I didn't leak at all with Koop, and had a great supply. Are you doing the skin to skin in hospital or are you pumping in the hospital?

I have to have a c-sec, and I remember with my first c-sec I wasn’t allowed to hold her for about an hour and a half.

So, I figure I’ll do skin to skin the second they allow me to, and then yes, I’ll start pumping as soon as I can.

I’ve been told that colostrum/milk sometimes doesn’t come in for days and can take even longer with a c-sec...so i figure we will formula supplement until it does come in.

@jennatess Yeah, I've never had a c-section so I'm no help there but it took my milk a couple days to come in.

@itswhitnibitch, I guess when it’s vaginal totally different hormones are released. The human body is so crazy!

That’s good to know though! That way I can kind of focus on my recovery from the surgery for the first day or two before I even have to worry about my milk supply.

It’s more common to not leak then it is to leak prior to birth ❤️

Oh good to hear!

It’s like the first time I didn’t want to try and just go straight to Formula, and I leaked like crazy. This time I really want to try, and nothing. 😂

So it had me worried.

Milk doesn’t come in until after birth. What you would be leaking is colostrum. But not everyone leaks and it’s no indication of what your supply will or will not be. I never leaked during either pregnancy but had a good supply the first time and so far have s good supply this time around.

The main thing to remember is skin to skin is really important and latching whenever babe wants to make your milk come in.

Thank you!

So I plan on (trying) to exclusively pump.

I know skin to skin is still extremely important, but should I pump every time baby take a bottle? That way my body knows the babies needs?

@jennatess, yes pump every 2-3 hours just as if babe were latching.

I never leaked with any of my pregnancies, milk always came in after the babes were born 😁

Starting TWW. Anyone else?

Starting TWW. Anyone else? I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks this passed Nov. This is my second month ttc. (Last month we only tried for like two weeks though). My last and only pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month of ttc so I hope it's quick this time again.
