I'm trying to get my 3 year old son potty trained...and it's so hard he will only tell me in the morning or at night before he goes to sleep that he has to pee but during the day he wont say a word...also should me and his daddy be practicing potty training with him or just his dad?..

You both should. Instead of waiting for him to tell you make him sit down and try every 20 mins.

Make him go often and offer a small reward when he does go. I gave my kids a few m&m's to encourage them to go. And at first I would have him just sit only until he fully gets the hang of it.

Yeah like all the times he tells me I reward him and tell him thankyou for telling me and when he doesn't tell me I just let him no like next time tell mommy..

@athenia823 I just did no matter what as long as they went! My son was fully potty trained a couple months after two and stood to pee maybe a few months later. The problem was he was to short to stand and pee without a step stool lol

We started letting our son go to the potty when Daddy went. I think it was between the age of 1.5 and 2 or less. This way he sees how it's done. He actually learned to pee standing up first. Then on the floor potty seat. I also had him pantless around the house to make it easier. He had some accidents with peeing on the floor, that's it. Also left the floor potty out in dinning room or living room. Now stands or sits on potty, his choice. He was fully potty trained right after he turned 3 years. Stopped using night time diapers also right after 3 years. He has never wet the bed.

We did pull ups only at night, I have a small stand up potty that I hung in the kitchen/dining room. U can get the stand up one off of wish. Plus potty chair in the bathroom.

yes he is having that same problem he wont poop in the toilet only pees but always pees in his diaper or pull up

@athenia823, your welcome. My personal opinion on pull ups is they just confuse them for a diaper. If you don’t have underwear for him, take him to the store and let him pick out his own. I also tell them if they pee on them the character is gonna cry

Get rid of day time diapers. Have him try every 20-30 mins until he learns and starts asking on his own. i did most of the potty training for my son just because my husband works too much for it to ever get done if it was up to him. Cheer for him every time he goes in the toilet, make it a big deal, if needed give a small treat for going. Don't get mad about accidents, just say "uh oh" and take him to sit on the potty to help associate that he needs to pee or poop there.
