How I'm the hell do baby showers even work? This is my second but we didn't have one with our first at all. We didn't have family around close enough or more than a couple friends where we lived. This time though we live very close to my in-laws and my MIL wants to throw a baby shower. But I have NO CLUE how that's supposed to work. She wants to have it when I'll be 34 weeks along. She said make a registry but I've got no clue what to put on there? What all do we buy before the baby shower? Waiting till 34 weeks to buy things seems like a recipe for disaster. My son came at 37weeks for medical reasons, I had to be induced or he might not have survived. So I'm a little nervous this one might need an earlier appearance too. Anyone here been thrown a baby shower? What do you put on your registry? What do you buy yourself earlier on? I automatically assume car seat, we'll be using a pack and play with infant insert for the baby when it's born so no crib, do we put a pack and play on the registry or buy one whenever we please? I don't want anyone shelling out a ton, but knowing my in-laws they'll like to go big on things, that's the way they always are. I just don't know what's appropriate to put on the registry for the baby shower. The thought of waiting that far along to buy things makes me really nervous, Should we just get the pack and play and car seat out of the way beforehand and then leave the other small stuff to buy if we don't get it at the baby shower?
Edit: I'll be exclusively breastfeeding, not going to be bothering with a pump, didn't use one last time after the first week.

Well for my first I was thrown a surprise baby shower so everything was set up. Maybe speak with your MIL and try to plan it a little bit earlier. I believe in at least 2 months before to play it safe. Just put the main things you may need for baby. You know the typical things. Bibs, cloths, stroller, car seats... A lot of them have a list you can use and go down the list. Like amazon has a check list and it can hell you out.

Some people believe in putting every little thing on the registry, from any nursery furniture down to the socks lol , if you want to have less to buy then you put them more the registry, keep in mind some people don’t even buy off the registry so you may have double sometimes, for my son I had a shower and I put pretty much everything on my registry but certain things were not bought such as the car seat stroller diaper bag . I’ve also noticed that sometimes if you put stuff that’s over a certain price on the registry people won’t buy it and they end up getting a bunch of clothes,
So with my second pregnancy I chose to not have a shower to avoid all of that I still made a registry and put things that I just didn’t get a chance to buy yet, I instead just had a small gender reveal dinner and if anybody wanted to bring a gift they brought a gift but other than that I went out and bought everything myself , what to do in cost me more than $1000(which includes The crib the stroller the car seat all the clothes toiletries bottles Etc ) sometimes when you have a shower the money you put back you only get that back so to avoid all the hassle just by yourself LOL
