I am never throwing my son a big party again. We are literally spending over 1k and I’m so stressed. I did not want to spend this much money

You could make the food for way less. Just get some crock pots and make some carnitas meat, chicken, etc. then make a couple pots of rice, and beans. It would cost under $100 for all the meat, rice, beans, tortillas, and then maybe $30 for some drinks.
I did not want to cook for 60 people it was going to be way to much work. I would also only have my mom to help. My husbands family members don’t know how to cook
That's the latino culture lol. I spent close the a thousand for my daughters first birthday. Now we only do food, cake and pinata. And only invite our siblings and parents. That's already like 30 people right there. But not nearly as expensive.
For my daughters baptism we spend over 7k 🤦🏻♀️ it was more than 200 guest my husbands family is huge they always wanna go all out in party’s I’m debating whether I even wanna do something like that for my second baby for bdays we just go to Disneyland
With that many people I would of done a potluck, that's stressful too tho because you have to communicate with everyone to make sure what they are bringing
@doubleksmommy, @mamagunn.no.1, @kaitlinl20, girlllsss for the last 2 birthdays my son had we cut a small cake wished him a happy birthday. A few gifts and called it a night. We have a Disney anual pass, and as far as I’m concerned it’s a birthday celebration for him any time we take him. But my MIL is on some other shit. My hobby is buying used furniture and refurbishing it for our home. And she literally had the audacity to tell me that i shouldn’t have bought that and saved that for the party... like, what!? In who’s right mind would they rather spend all that money on 1 day then a nice looking place!?
She does sound like a piece of work! That wouldn't fly with me. I'd have to speak up and probably not in the most tactful way! I would sit down with your husband and re plan the party in a realistic way and both stand up and tell her that it's not happening the way she wants it, unless she is contributing some $$$ because it's not her child nor her finances that are at play. Things like this just make me count my blessings that DH has nothing to do with his mother, so I don't have to deal with Mil BS.
@mamagunn.no.1, girl. Yes. She helps us out a lot watching our kids. But she’s definitely a piece of work. I can’t spend too much time with her because we bicker lol
Omg 1k on a kid party! Lol, and here i was complaining about spending 200 on my 2 year olds bday 🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣
If your MIL thinks it needs to be that extravagant, tell her she needs to put some money towards the expenses or your going to be shortening the guest list by a lot! That's way to much to spend on a kids party. I know they can get expensive, but that's just beyond. I would tell her to either help, or all that extended family will not be able to attend.
60 people?! That's insane, I don't even want to invite 16 people to my daughter bday lol.
I remember spending 1k on my daughters first bday party. We invited all kinds of people and it was a Minnie Mouse theme. Never again I would spend so much money. Her 2-4 bday party’s, they have been under $300.
@mumstasin, @laniejay, yeah make her throw it. If she wants it, she can pay for it
I know. I’m not doing a big party anymore. She was saying my daughter needed a big party. I’m like, “girl bye” I haven’t even bought a outfit for myself for the party and at this rate I’m not going to have any money to spend for myself
@mumstasin, ugh that sucks. I myself never had a birthday party growing up, and I was perfectly fine with that. Just give me some cake and presents! Lol
@maddiesmommy16, @_teenmamaof2_, @laniejay, this is the first party I’m throwing him and the last. We usually just celebrate one day at my husband side with immediate family and the next day at my moms house. It’s small intimate and doesn’t cause me this much stress and anxiety. My mother in law is the one always complaining about us not inviting her extended family
That’s insane! I don’t throw my son a big birthday party since he won’t remember it😅 I bake him a banana bread cake and get him presents. Usually friends and family drop by to give him presents a couple weeks after his birthday
Oh my!! I hope he has a great birthday! I thought me renting out a gymnastics place for $100 was a lot 😬. I think we’ve spent maybe $300 total so far.
@jellybeans33, @phoebesmommy, we will be doing that moving forward. We invited all of our extended family this time. My mother in law doesn’t understand how expensive things are. We actually got into a argument not so long ago, because she thinks we shouldn’t be complaining about spending so much money. Which I disagree. We have 2 kids. If we throw big parties like this twice a year that’s over 2k
@mumstasin, just remember when ppl RSVP your attendance is usually still only ab 60-70% of the yes responses you get. Can you rent a large gazebo and keep the decor simple?
@laniejay, @jellybeans33, all of our extended family is over 60 people. It’s 500$ just for the taco we are having. It might rain so I might have to rent out a location for 350. That’s not including tables, decoration, cake, party favors, drinks... z
Is the taco thing something catered??
@phoebesmommy, yes it’s catered. They provide drinks, rice, beans, quesadillas, jalapeño poppers
where can I spend my birthday in NYC?
I walk in Walmart for two things and end up spending 100+ dollars. 😯😮😣
I dont understand how someone can claim they are in debt, gets foodstamps, and has the smallest limit to spend on their children but also spend thousands on theirself. Shouldn't you take care of your kids and bills before? I mean, i collect foodstamps, but thats because after paying all our bills and taking care of our children's needs, we still need a little help. Anything we do for fun is saved up for, or is free. But we arnt going to spend thousands out of spite, greed or bordem.
How much do you spend on groceries?
I’m spending $400-500 a month for 2 people and a toddler (who doesn’t eat what i cook)... it’s nauseating.

How I get to spend my day.
