How would you explain your period to your 3 1/2 year old?
I’m asking because she has started asking me and when I use the restroom she freaks out. She asks me if I’m sick because I’m bleeding. I tell her it’s normal for older girls and it happens and that I’m perfectly fine. She started crying saying she was scared for me. I’m not sure how to ease her mind.

I would just say i got a booboo and try to avoid her being around when i change . I remember asking my mom as a kid and she told me she got hurt but it’s healing so i let it go and she avoided me seeing anything

I think that honesty is the best way to go. You explained well, and if she keeps asking id keep telling her that it is just apart of life as a girl, it is okay and there is nothing wrong. My mom was so incredibly closed about anything like this and I promised myself I wouldn't be with my daughter. i had to face it all alone because she never told me anything. It was horrible.

Same here. Honestly it’s hard to keep them out of the bathroom lol. I don’t get to see them much and sometimes they just like run in when I just get home from work and go pee. Haha. She’s very nurturing. Always worried when someone is hurt. I love my sweet girl I just wanted an age appropriate answer for her. I think I did well lol

Yes I think you answered very well. I think we sometimes don't understand how resilient kids are, and if we answer them with the truth and honesty, they usually respond better than we ever give them credit for!

I agree with being open and honest. I wouldn’t specifically bring my daughter in there with the intent to give her a lesson on periods...but they’re always around and they do see things. So when they ask...just answer! Tell her what it’s called and give as much info as you’re comfortable with. I think the amount said will be different for every momma. But they understand more than we realize and you don’t want her to be afraid either, like you mentioned. I think you’ve done well so far. If she brings it up again just offer a little more info on the matter and hopefully that makes her feel better. Lol.

Good answer 👍☝️

When I say “what it’s called”, I mean the PERIOD. Just clarifying. Lol

I always just tell my son that mamas need diapers too. He usually just continues on with his day when I say that lol.

I cannot let my son in the bathroom with me when it's that time if the month. I bleed so much it gets everywhere, it so messy the first 3 days. If I brought him in there he would say Im dying and bleeding to much and that I need to go to the doctor. He would freak out

I’m sorry to laugh at this but the way you explained what could be his reaction made me laugh lol I’m so nervous about that when it’s time for me to explain that to my little ones.
