Does anyone get help from the state that could tell me how it works? We’re moving from N.J. to PA and i’m having a hard time finding a nanny job that lets me bring my daughter to work. I can’t bring her to day care because she’s still too behind developmentally to be with the other one year olds because she was born premature. We bought a house but me not having any income will mean we can’t afford it. A little more info :

- I’m unemployed

- 24 years old

- I’m with my daughters father but we are not married

- My name is not on the house

Do you think i’d be able to get assistance from the state?

I think they will still count his income since you’re living with him and he is her father. Look up the eligibility for a family of three and see if you fall into the guide lines.

You still have to give them his information if you are living together, 1) if you don’t and they find out it would be considered welfare fraud, 2) in the state of pa they will put him on child support especially if you want cash assistance.

Eta: the snap income limits for a family of 3 is $2,252, before tax.

Why did you guys buy a house if you can’t afford it given your current situation? I agree with others. If you live together they will count his income & lying about living together would be welfare fraud.

@ek_, We can afford it if I have a job? We are moving 2 hours away. I can’t keep my current job

I said current situation. Your current situation is that you are unable to find employment & you said yourself you can’t afford the house without your income. Do you have some savings to cover some of the mortgage until you find employment?

@ek_, Ok let me rephrase. We can’t afford other things if i don’t have a job. I have a car, phone etc. No ones ideal situation is to not find employment and it’s actually a pretty common thing for people to not be able to find a job.

Because the two of you live together, you’ll have to include his income and the state will more than likely put him on child support if you’re seeking assistance.

What delays are preventing your daughter from going to daycare? My daughter was born prematurely as well, and we put her in daycare at 9 months. You can message me privately if you don’t want to discuss that here.

If you can afford to buy a home,,,most states wouldn't say you qualify for assistance..and for your security Since your name isn't on the home ..at any moment your man can kick u you out ..if your Name is no where on papers ..the cops could make you leave..scary situation if your man decided that..I would make him at least sign a notarize paper stating Your allowed to live there just some advice

My name isn't on the mortgage because my credit wasn't great and I have no job, but I am on the deed. Mainly because, God forbid something happened to him, I wouldn't lose our home since I'm on the deed too.

But anyway. Could you change from a nanny to an in-home daycare sort of thing? I unfortunately know nothing about assistance in PA, but the county that you're moving to has to have a FAQ section, or a phone number or email where you could ask? A friend of ours doesn't work, has four kids, isn't married, they own their home, and she still got assistance, but she is in a different state. So it probably depends on the state, although it's always worth it to ask or read the rules.
