Okay. I need some advice. I am a smoker, dying to quit at this point, it’s no good for me, no good for my sweet babies, and it’s long overdue that I just quit! I’m ready! But mother of all things unholy, it hurts to go without!! The headaches are terrible, the anxiety, and going through some really enormous life changes, I desperately want the crutch, but absolutely hate it, and really don’t want to keep doing this. Any reformed smokers have advice on quitting? This is getting ridiculous!
Girl I feel you 100%. I stared again after my miscarriage in October.. and life has been crazy hectic since and I just haven’t found the strength to quit. A pack lasts me about 3-4 days. How much are you going through? Obviously it’s easy to quit while you’re pregnant cause you a precious little baby literally living off your body. So the difference of quitting while pregnant vs not pregnant is tremendous. But when I quit before I wasn’t pregnant I used things like gum, lots of hard candies (constantly had something in my mouth) I took CBD oil and stayed on top of my anxiety medicine which helped a lot. & in wa weed is legal so I vaped my thc pen a lot which was immensely helpful. But the thing that helped the most was Wellbutrin I got prescribed from my doctor. It took awhile like 3 or so weeks for it to start actually taking effect but it does work!
I’ve been a pack a day smoker over the past few weeks. My grandmother passed, and she raised me, my childcare fell through as a result of that, and I had to quit my job to stay at home with my babies, and it has been a struggle to stay relatively sane! With all this change, I don’t really want to quit! Smoking, at least from my perspective, gives you the opportunity to go outside, have a couple deep breaths, and center a little bit. Which of course you can do without a cig, but ughhhh. I’ve heard a lot about Wellbutrin really aiding it quitting, and Cbd seriously helping curb the addiction too!
Did you start back up after you had each of your kids? You quit during your pregnancies so it is possible to quit! Does your state or county have a smoking cessation program? They can offer supplies like gum or patches and a lot of times they have a help line.
I did, and I stayed good throughout my maternity leave too, and then I went back to work 😩 There’s definitely programs/hotlines in Cali that are state funded and free for the most part, and I hadn’t honestly put much thought into that, so thank you!
I used to smoke a pack a day lol. Once prices on cigarettes went up I quit cold turkey. Cost of living and price on cigarettes is crazy. So I quit just like that. For myself my kids and my pocket. Good luck to you. You can do it if you really want to. It may be hard but it is possible.
Honestly - i don’t smoke and never have. But my husband has been smoking since he was like, 16. He’s quit and started back up multiple times. He quit when we had our first boy back in 2012 and he actually did it by just chewing sunflower seeds every time he felt like he needed a cigarette. He was grumpy from with withdrawals for a few days and had some bad headaches - but after the first initial like, OKAY IM NOT DOING THIS ANYMORE - he was good to go!
