Any tips on how mamas with dogs managed to introduce their babies into the house?
Our German Shepherd is a very hyper & easily excited dog so my mother in law took one of the blankets from the hospital to our house with her & let our dog sniff it & everything. Then when we came home he didn’t care one bit. He had plenty of other people to focus on so I think that helped too.
My dog is bit hyper too. I feel like things will be alright, but I just don’t want him to be nervous. He’s sweet but can be too much at times.
Yup, like @bodybycheetos, did. My husband brought home her blanket to smell the day before we came home. That’s about it. Then we introduced them when she came home.
My husband took one of his receiving blankets home and let them smell it and get used to it. When we did go home we introduced them to the baby. I kept the pack and play in the living room so my curious dog could go check him out but I wasn't worried about him pestering the baby.
I didn’t do anything special. Anytime we’ve brought a baby home, we’ve kept them in their car seat while the dogs smelled around, then keep baby out of the floor until the dogs are no longer excited by them. Never had any issues.
Honestly I didn't do anything but bring my daughter home. My dog didn't have any issues I didn't have any thoughts that he would hurt her in any way. If I did have to take extra measures I would have gotten rid of my dog. But he loved my daughter from the second we came home and was so attached to her
I let my dogs sniff my babies toes and watch me interact/care for her and moved from them. I would sit on the couch and allow them to sit next to me and eventually allow them to move closer. It truly depends on your dogs temperament. If they behave well with visitors and guest, and listen to commands like “stop.”
I brought a blanket home from the hospital let him sniff it out and investigate... It was about a week before I let him see her up close.. But he was allowed to hang out around us and hear her and things.. He's very gentle even to This day when I know she can be annoying...lol
Thank you for the valid advice everyone! I’m definitely going to try it out.
