So my 3 year old son just woke up having screaming fit. It's freaking me our and we can't calm him down. He's just crying and winning. He was screaming at first in his bedroom. Most nights he does wake in the middle of the night crying for some odd reason but then goes back to sleep. But this time it happen earlier and I can still hear my husband trying to calm him down. But of course I'm not allowed to go help. I'm just worried. And as far as I know he's been up since 5am. He stayed over his grandmother's last night. Anyone have a kid that wakes up and does this? He also sometimes does it when he wakes from naps

It's night terrors. A lot of toddlers and small children have night terrors. My almost 3yr old has them too a couple times a week and he'll wake up screaming and balling his eyes out and there's no getting through to him, it's like he's still asleep and can't hear me but his eyes are open. I find the only way to handle it is to sit on his bed and gently but sternly repeat his name over and over again telling him to wake up and I'll rub his back or arms and that helps a little...

I'll have to ask my husband if he is fully awake when it happens or half asleep. I know one night I heard him screaming in the night and went into his bedroom and I tried to calm him and he tried hitting and kicking me away so I just walked out and he stopped. It freaked me out. I just feel helpless when it happens

Sounds like night terrors. My little cousin has them. The best thing to do is hold him(if he lets you) and just ride it out. Tell him reassuring things like “mommy is here” “you’re safe” “it’s going to be okay” etc,. It’s such a hard thing to watch and listen to. 😭

Yes it is. He never really wants to be touched or held. But I will let my husband know to just reassure him. Thanks

Definitely night terrors. It's pretty common. I agree with @bitchcraft's advice too.
