Will croup always come with a fever?

Last thursday my daughter woke up with what I thought was a cold. she only had a mild fever for a few hours but had a bad cough and chest congestion. Since then she’s been totally fine otherwise but bad cough and mucus in her throat/chest. Took her to the ped on friday last week to make sure it wasn’t in her lungs. We have a cool mist humidifier on, took her in steamy bathroom/shower and have given her cough and mucus medicine. It seems like her cough is getting worse and worse at night time/as the day goes on. Tonight she coughed so hard she threw up...then did it again 😭
