God I wish you guys could talk sense into my husband about when and when not to give meds like Tylenol. Do you have a list about when to give meds and when not to lol
I think they should post this on the door outside the ER. The worst is while waiting in the ER (at least in Canada not sure about the USA they see you not in order of check in but in order of emergency) people complaining that others are being called before them when they are there for the most ridiculous things.
Too many people use the ER instead of just going to their primary doctor or urgent care. It baffles me. I have only taken my kids to the ER once when my oldest was a baby. He was projectile vomiting non stop and being a few months old the pediatrician told us to bring him immediately. Everything else we treat at home or call the pediatrician if it’s a fever or something non life threatening. Going to the ER got nonsense takes away from those really in an emergency.
Ugh...I’ve only been to the ER once! My daughter fell out of the trampoline and banged her head open. She got 4 staples on the back of her head! Never even been to urgent care. I know people who go for the slightest issue, I’m just like 🙄
Sadly here you need referrals from your PCP to be seen by the urgent care and our doctors won't send referrals there. With our insurance we can use teledoc now instead.
And some pediatricians have after hours nurses lines and the nurses tell you to take them to the ER even you're just asking for what to do at home until you can call in the following day.
Fever isn't so cut and dry. As my pediatrician has said a high fever with normal baby just needs observation, on the other hand a low temp with abnormal behavior warrants the ER.
You're completely right that more parents should be prudent in their decisions to take their children to the ER but I am on the rather go in than take a chance team since my oldest almost died at 4 months. She only had a 100.4 but we were told to take her in and it saved her life. I think we should work together with this information and educate ourselves and one another and make the best decisions possible without forgetting what the ER is for. It makes me mad when some people go to the ER for nothing just bc they don't have to pay for ER visits and do so to avoid their copay at the doctor's office. So frustrating!

This should be a not-so-friendly stop taking your kids to the ER for a fever of 100.5 ffs

I used to have this awesome pic of when to medicate a fever. I lost it with my old phone. I'll have to try to find it.

Idk what’s worse... the ones who aren’t sure what to do when their toddler has a low fever and runny nose, or the ones who tell them to run to the ER.

Unfortunately the urgent care near me won't see lo's, and the rest between me and the ER want payment before being seen.

Here if your child is under 1 urgent care won't see them and if their doctor can't squeeze them in you have to go to the emergency room.
