Today was my actual due date so in honor of it I thought I would share my birth story....

It was Wednesday November 28, 2018 around 6:30 pm we just got home from work and I was in the middle of cooking chicken patties and tator tots in the oven for dinner. I got up when the oven timer went off for me to flip the patties over and took about four steps from the dining room table to the kitchen and I felt what I thought was a little discharge so I stopped walking and then more started coming, felt like I was peeing a little on myself so I calmly said to my husband that was in the living room “Josh I think my water broke. And he was like huh (he didn’t believe me at first because I was so calm in saying it, he thought I was giving him a test) then more water started pouring out of me and I again said my water broke. By now he’s coming to the kitchen and sees the huge amount of water I’m standing in and sees how much is still coming out. He starts running around the house getting dressed and grabbing the car seat. Then I start telling him to grab towels for the car and where out Hospital bags are. (I had mine and his packed but not the baby bag) I wake my sister up and call my mom at work and let her know my water broke. She follows us up to the hospital and I have my sister go in and tell them my water broke. A nurse rushes out with a wheelchair and the next thing I know I’m being wheeled in to labor and delivery where I find out I’m 70% thin and 2 cm dilated. So they admit me. They hooked me up to the monitor to watch baby’s heartbeat and my contractions. They kept coming in and checking on me because they could only pick baby’s heartbeat up if I was laying on my left side. I told them I was having contractions but they told me that the machine wasn’t showing it and they kept adjusting the straps on the monitor. Finally around 4:00 am Thursday November 29, 2018 they begin Pitocin and about 7:00 am the contractions were coming on very strong. They finally checked to see how far I was dilated again (2nd time) and I was 5 cm and the baby was still high up and she said my pelvic was small and my cervix was crooked or something like that. But she inserted something to monitor how strong my contractions were to see if they just weren’t strong enough to push the baby. After monitoring them she seen they were way off the charts high and was plenty strong enough to make thing move and she didn’t know why he wasn’t down more so she decided we needed to do a Csection. I laid there for another 6 - 7 hours waiting for them to come and get me for my Csection.

They finally took me and started prepping me. I had to sit completely still while my contractions were hitting hard so they could get the shots in my back. Finally they got me all ready and I remember just laying there shaking bc I was so cold and the nurse kept putting warm towels on my arms. Finally they brought my husband in and they began my Csection. I didn’t feel anything. I kept laying there thinking when they gonna start and finally the nurse told my husband if he wanted a picture of the baby to get his phone ready. My husband couldn’t bring himself to take a picture of me laying there cut open so he said he would wait till they brought the baby up to us.

I’ll never forget the feeling of laying there and waiting to hear our baby boy cry. Then NICU Dr brought our baby up to the front of the bed to us and my husband was able to snap on fast photo. At this point I remember looking at my husband with tears in my eyes saying “he never cried”

At this point o could hear the DR calling for more assistance and more nurses started rushing in. The DR was giving our baby CPR. Our baby wasn’t breathing. And all I could do is look at husband and I kept saying he’s not crying somethings wrong.

The whole time they were putting me back together and sewing me up they were working on our baby trying to get him to breath. Finally the DR came over to us and started explain our baby was born not able to breath but he was finally able to get him stable (he said when he try to vent him that he seem to be a blockage and in his 15 years of being a NICU Dr that he never seen that) and then he told us there was a flight team from Nemours Children’s Hospital they was there for another baby but that baby wasn’t born yet and our son had to go now for a chance to help save him and any damage that could have been done to his organs from him not breathing.

They took me to the recovery room and the flight team came for us to sign papers for them to take our son and asked if my husband would like to come take pictures and see him before they had to leave. Of course my husband asked if I could come see him and they said they would try they’re best to get me up there in time.

Finally I was wheeled up there in my hospital bed and I asked if my mom and sister could see him before they took him. So we all got to see him for less than 5 mins before they rushed him off.

I was finally release the two days after my delivery and we went straight to our baby boy that was over an hour away. When we first walked in and seen everything he was hooked up to it was so scary.

He spent 27 days in the NICU and spent everyday with him there. We finally was able to bring him home on Christmas Day! Best present ever!

He’s a strong fighter and has come a long way! We couldn’t have gotten through this without God, each other, our family, and our friends!

Thank you all for being there for me and all the prayers! Sorry this is so long but I thought maybe some of y’all would wanna hear it since y’all were there from the beginning!

I was 35 weeks 5 days when my water broke!
He was born November 29, 2018 2:23 pm
He was 7 lbs 5 oz (we don’t know his length bc they didn’t do it)

You're so strong momma!!! Those scary events are definitely hard to handle. My little guy spent 26 days in the NICU so I feel you on that end. The nurses and doctors are incredible in NICUs.
