Need advice!

Little back story- I am a nanny. before my daughter was born I worked before school hours (6-8:30) and after school hours (4-6:30). When I had my daughter I stopped working mornings for obvious reasons. She’s almost 11 months now so i started working 2 mornings a week just for extra money. My boss is notorious for staying home from work/working from home and not telling me and still having me coming in at the crack of dawn. I told her that I don’t mind doing two mornings but if she happens to stay home to please let me know so i don’t have to wake up my sleeping baby at 5:30 to come in to work if she’s going to be home. (when she does that she sits on the couch doing nothing while I do everything)

So this morning I get to work, not only is her husband home, but he’s home because he’s really sick. To me, this isn’t ok. My daughter was born premature and we can not afford for her to get sick. Not only was he home, but he didn’t stay in bed. He laid right on the couch where I would usually have my daughter letting her relax drinking her bottle until we leave and she can go back to sleep on the way home. I need to say something right? It is not ok to me for people to be so sick around my daughter. Premature or not, don’t be around a baby if you’re sick.

Am I right? Or am I being crazy?

you're not crazy at all, you're exactly right dear!! I'd be mad, if someone let me come into work without telling me my SO is sick, knowing my child comes with me!!

You def need to say something. I would say that you should look for a new family, because they sound really inconsiderate

When you see that they’re home, have you ever thought about just leaving? I know it’s a waste of gas to get there but maybe it’ll make a point that says “if you’re home, I don’t need to be here, and now you have to watch your own kids”

See I could understand if they were home and working from home, cause I’ve nannied for some families like that - super annoying, but I get it.

As for the sick thing, yeah, I would say something. If it was just you, fine I’d let it slide, but you have your daughter with you. It sucks because he probably feels horrible and can’t take care of the kids or whatever man cold he might have, but he should be considerate in not getting others, ESPECIALLY his kids sick. 🤦‍♀️

So, yes, I think I would say something.

I think I would say something. Them being home while you're there is annoying but if they're working from home it's almost impossible to get work done and take care of kids (my fiance did it a lot and if I wasn't there he'd get no work done.) If she's just sitting on the couch doing nothing, though, that's different.

The sick thing, that's just inconsiderate. I'd get it if it was just you, or even if they called to be like "hey, so-and-so is sick, do you want to risk it or take the day off?" But with your daughter, especially being a preemie AND it being winter, that's different and very inconsiderate. My fiance was a preemie and for his first 5 Christmases or so, he was in the hospital with things like pneumonia.

It's easier said than done, but with everything else about this family, they seem inconsiderate and uncaring, and finding a new family might be an idea. I have a friend who nannies for a family in PA, so you could always look there too!
