Not to the internet. It sends out its own signal that you then connect your phone/laptop to like you would a regular wifi signal. For Canon you download an app to your phone (I forget what it's called and haven't redownloaded it yet - new phone - Canon connect? EOS Remote?) that you use to control almost everything on the camera (not the focal length, since you have to do that manually, but almost all the settings and the shutter.)

@nomli wow. You've just made me reconsider my purchase. If the app works it a got to be great. I will give it some more thought.

@argiemom29, haha. Read reviews. Many sites do reviews of the same level cameras and compare. Figure out what features are the most important to you and see which camera does it better. For me it was between the 6D and 70D, and I liked the faster processor and shutter speed on the 70D, as well as the low light performance. Next time I upgrade, though, I do intend to look at a full frame camera.

My friend just got the T7i and likes it a lot. She still messages me all the time asking how to do things, but it's fairly easy to use. I like Canon over Nikon, but I know a lot of people like Nikon because of the lens quality.
Keep in mind though, that the lens is what you should focus on. A good lens will make an entry-level camera shine while a crap lens could make even the best camera take junk pictures. (Not saying you should put a $2500 lens on a $600 camera, but know that the lens does makes a difference too.)

@argiemom29, I’m a Canon user and I feel they are more beginner friendly. If you’re looking for affordable I would go with a T7i or if you have some money to spend I would go with an 80d. The 80 is professional quality but still user friendly enough to be ranked into the beginner/intermediate level.

@tennesseehawk thank you! I read reviews and for some reason I favored Nikon but I know they are comparable. It's really hard to make a decision! Lol
