Has anyone ever given their baby both formula and breast milk at the same time? I'm asking because my S.O & I are talking about whether or not to breastfeed our next child and we were wondering if anyone has ever done both.

A lot of ladies supplement. I did it because I never produced enough breastmilk.

@nlw, is breastfeeding and supplementing with formula not using both methods? I’m not understanding your comment.

@flamingomom I thought you meant just using formula. That was my bad

sorry if I wasn’t clear. I started supplementing with formula at 2 weeks because she wasn’t gaining weight. I always breastfed first and then gave her formula after. I stopped giving her formula after her birthday and I’m still breastfeeding but I’ll be weaning over the winter break since I can’t produce enough to tandem feed.

While I was working my husband would feed my daughter formula and when I was home she got breastmilk. She eventually refused formula and would only breastfeed. But it did work for quiet a while.

Like @flamingomom, I always breastfed first then gave formula after. I wasn’t able to produce enough so I had to give formula too. I continued with both until she turned 9 months, then gave just formula.

Yes! I’ve done a combination of both with my kids and it worked great!

I currently do both because I don't feel I make enough and also if I decide to drink extra coffee or need to take my nerve meds for any reason (I try not to ..) I pump and dump and formula feed or extra pump beforehand
