If it were me, and there’s really no finish to remove, I would start with a fine grit paper just to clean it up and remove any blemishes and just prep it. If you think it needs more, then go with a little bit of a harder paper after that. But really it would be hard to screw this kind of a grain up! I wouldn’t worry too much 😊

Definitely use a sander. You’re not going to hurt the grain, just be sure to only sand off the finish and not much of the wood or you could end up with an un-smooth surface 😀

I got this for free so it’s a bit beat up. I didn’t see much finish. So should I use a higher grit? Just to smooth it out? Or gradually go higher?

So when I’m sanding the top of the table and it has different wood patterns should I do it manually or can I still use a sander?
