Ours was a day after discharge. We had to have the appointment scheduled before we were allowed to leave.

They should tell you when discharged. We left the hospital 24 hrs later and they told us to make an appointment when he was 3 days old, well that was a Sunday, so we made it for that Monday when he was 4 days old. There were none available, but they the scheduler worked it out with the doctor to squeeze him in, they do that for newborns! With my daughter we stayed a week and had to have one within a week of discharge,

But she had already been under medical care. It just depends! BUT should be within a week of discharge I would think.

The hospital I deliver at takes it seriously- they even call you to make sure it’s scheduled! Which is good, because there is so much going on it could be forgotten.
