supplementing with formula will diminish your supply. Baby is getting plenty as long as you put him to breast as often as he wants and as long as he wants.

When you feed your baby a bottle pump afterwards, or at the same time if someone else can feed them, for 5-10 minutes at least whether you are able to pump anything out or not. It will still simulate a feeding and keep your body into thinking your baby just nursed or tried and que it to produce more.

Dont stress your self over needing to supplement, and dont worry that it will cause you to not produce enough by doing so. The above is just one way to help make sure your body continues to produce the same and hopefully more all while supplementing when you need to.

@blackcanary91 Okay. If you supplement and then dont remove that milk from the breast it will diminish supply. Breast feeding is supply and demand so the more milk removed from the breast, the more produced. If you are feeding baby from sources other than the breast that will create a deficit in the milk supply.

@mhbb3 yes which is why I suggested that if supplementing is needed to still pump during the feeding that is supplemented, even if not much milk is able to be pumped, because it will simulate to the body to continue to produce milk. It still triggers the supply and demand.

I wasn't completely disagreeing with you, just simply explaining that there are ways to supplement when needed and avoid it causing supply to diminish.

Also, @sahmplustwo_. I see your only 6 days past your precious little ones arrival, your supply will increase more with each day especially if you try to breastfeed for each feeding and pump when you supplement. If your still concerned there is usually breast feeding support offered through your hospital. Good luck momma!
