Since we can’t bump posts, I think it’s time for a re-post as this seems to come up so often here. Especially now that the AAP is in full support of what CPSTs have been saying for years.
Here are some great links on Rearfacing:

Legal isn’t always safest. Legal is bare minimum. When it comes to hold safety we should strive for better than the minimum. There are some great seats on the market that are very inexpensive and there’s always programs to help.
Let’s talk booster seats:

Don’t rush your babies. This is one area you don’t want them growing too fast! Be sure they pass the 5 step test before not using a car seat at all (the average child is 10-12 before meeting these!)

Aftermarket Accessories are a big no no:

As always: READ YOUR MANUAL and cross reference with your car’s manual for best install. If you have questions, contact a CPST. You can google where to find them in your area. NOT all fire stations or police stations have them. Many you need to call and schedule when one is on duty. And let’s not forget- most hospitals are not properly trained.
Don’t get angry when someone offers advice. Swallow your pride and do your research. This is your child’s life. The “we didn’t have them and we survived” mentality is dangerous. The ones who didn’t survive aren’t here to talk about it.
Phew. That’s a lot to learn!! CPSTs please feel free to chime in.
Because it’s not a requirement @yamip91, to take a class or pass before you can have a baby. Some people honestly just don’t know and that’s why it’s important to teach and no judge. Just keep helping and showing ppl who don’t know how to so they can know better and hopefully do better.
I honestly dont know why people are so ignorant when it comes to carseat safety and even when told whats right from wrong they decide continue acting like they know it all!!
I always ask myself how can they even drive with a foward facing toddler while throwing a tamtrun and hitting their drivers seat?? Like I cant even think clear when my rf girls hit the backseat.
@yayacarrington, my 2 yr old was complaining about his seat yesterday and I said “don’t worry, only 10 more years of this...” I was joking until I thought about it, and it actually is likely 10 more years 😂 we don’t play when it comes to car seats.
My 11 year old is still in a booster seat. My 7 year old just graduated to a high back booster. And my 5 year old is forward facing in a 5 point harness. They will stay this way until they reach the height and weight limits of their seats. Car seat safety and proper food handling are two things I do not compromise on.
@laniejay she was super nice and waited for us to get done. We were there for hours!
@klazaro, I’m pretty sure more than half of the statements that say “my pediatrician said it’s ok...” are false. I refuse to believe there are that many bad pediatricians
@girlmom., that would make me buy a car there. When I went, I brought my seats to make sure they fit. One SUV he insisted would work- I showed him how and he said “ehh just forward face them” we left after that. The next dealership the salesman was asking all sorts of questions. He goes “this will be great and give me an in with moms!”
We went to get a new car last Friday and the dealer ship had one on duty!! I thought that was awesome. She came over and told us we properly put all 3 car seats in correctly 😁😁
He's still rearfacing and will continue to do so until hits the height/weight max for his seat! I get grief from it, and I know it'd be easier to turn him, but I see way too many accidents to risk his safety for my convenience.
I cried when I saw that post..... their was another one the other day, who said because her car seat is a 3-1 and grows with them it’s ok to forward face at 13 months 😭😭😭
