It’s just an estimate they can be off by one pound either way, my daughter was 8lbs 2oz and i delivered at 40 weeks. I didn’t have GB either.

@itty_bitty, they usually do an ultrasound and get an estimated weight but it can be off by a pound

The weight is an estimate. I was told my first two would be over 8 pounds and they were 6# 5 ounces and 6# 11 ounces. My doctor doesn't even bother estimating anymore. Baby could be smaller or bigger. And if there is any risk or concerns for vaginal delivery they will do a c section.

My son was born at 6lbs 9oz and was crazy healthy. That’s a good birth weight!

Sounds like a healthy weight. As long as Gd is being under control, it’s not a concern. Do you think your blood sugars are off?

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@itty_bitty they have me am estimate last tues when I was in the hos

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@penelope127 they are under control but sometimes its high but that would be my fault

If you have GD they won’t let you go past your due date. Most women with GD get induced at 39 or 40 weeks. Don’t stress about it. And as for reference I’m 32 weeks along I’ll be 33 on Friday and my son is estimated to weight 5lbs that’s as of last Thursday. I would say your baby is not as big as you think you’ll be okay.

Ultrasound is an estimate and they can be off by 1-2 lbs. With my son they told me he was 5lbs low 6lbs he was born days later at almost 9lbs. What is it you were expecting them to do? 7lbs 4oz doesn’t seem big for 38 weeks. My daughter was born at 37 weeks weighing 7lbs even, my other daughter was born at 38 weeks weighing 8lbs even.

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@mimixtmn I just hope he's not to big and I have to get a c section that scares me but those doctors are trained for it

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@raqueliiosiis even if your GD is controlled by diet they will still not let me go over I'm not on insulin tho

raqueliiosiis

Raquel

@jenny955, as far as I’ve been told even if controlled by diet and your numbers are always perfect they will not allow you to go over. Based on your own replies on this thread tho maybe talk to your dr because you said it yourself that your numbers aren’t always perfect let them know now so they can plan accordingly. I’ll be induced at 39 weeks (I am on insulin) they won’t let me go pass 39 weeks. My OB has also said that as long as we make it to 36 weeks I have the green light to deliver if he chooses to come early but that’s what my OB and perineonatalogist go by your OB may be different.

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@raqueliiosiis I control them but it all depends on what I eat I told them they have been fine because they have but sometimes I get high ones I cant go past 140

raqueliiosiis

Raquel

@jenny955, that’s normal you shouldn’t really be going pass 130 after a meal, and even with insulin you have to watch what you eat you can’t just eat whatever you want (unfortunately). I would still let your Ob know you sometimes have higher reading that may be enough for them to rationalize when they’ll induce you or if she’ll let you go pass 40 weeks. I was actually told on this app that the reason why they don’t let people go pass 39 weeks is due to the placenta deteriorating and my Ob agreed with that being the concerned. Also if the baby gets too big they’ll do a c section. On my end it was if they estimated he would be over 10 lbs they wouldn’t let me go vaginally

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@raqueliiosiis yeah he knows some were high but he was only really looking at my fasting numbers and those are always perfect so I dont think they will induce me at 39 weeks they haven't mentioned it and ill be 39 next week

raqueliiosiis

Raquel

@jenny955, wow that’s crazy that’s not how it’s done here. Well good luck I still say ask your dr to make sure they don’t throw a curve ball at you

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@raqueliiosiis thats why I was saying their not taking it seriously and thank you

I had GD with my son and controlled it thru diet only and my son was still 10.3lbs at birth.

laniejay

Lanie Jay

I had GD controller by diet and there was never a discussion of inducing because of the GD. They estimated he was 8.5 lbs at 36 weeks and tried scaring me saying he’d be huge. Two weeks later he was born at 7lbs 6oz, those ultrasounds are RARELY correct. I wish they’d stop giving out weight estimates and causing unnecessary stress.

From everything you’ve said- it sounds like your doctors are up to date and making logical decisions. It may not be what you want, but that doesn’t make them lax or wrong. They’ve got two patients to consider.

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay yeah he knows ive had a couple high ones

laniejay

Lanie Jay

@jenny955, you said it was likely your fault- are you sticking to a diet plan?

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay yeah I'm sticking with it, and it was high because I had ice cream or something

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@the.real.og that's what I'm scared of but I'm sure he's fine

laniejay

Lanie Jay

@jenny955, so that’s not exactly sticking to it. I’d say your GD is in control when you don’t cheat. So again your doctor isn’t concerned because there’s no concern if you are eating properly.

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay hahaha you can have ice cream

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay carbs is worse than sugar I have sugar in my coffee every morning I look at the carbs before I eat anything and check my sugar its good numbers

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay and what do you mean cheating

laniejay

Lanie Jay

Some can have ice cream, for some carbs are worse. It all depends on how your body metabolizes things. Carbs weren’t so bad for me.

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay carbs are worse for me but I still have to look at both before I eat it yeah sometimes I slip up and have an ice cream cone but my doctor always says I'm not concerned what your eating as long as the numbers are good numbers

jenny955

Jennyg51397

@laniejay and when I'm at my appointments he asks me how are my fasting numbers and I said never went over 90 then seems to not care about anything else but he looks at my machine amd sees the high ones
