Hey moms❤️question. After your first prenatal visit.. did your doctor request for you to have blood work done? And if so do you have to get the blood work done before you schedule an ultrasound?
I still haven't went to my first prenatal appointment due to my insurance being slow to start, but I have been to the ER a time or two for bleeding during my pregnancy where I got blood test (for hcg levels, blood type, etc), ultrasound, and pelvic exam because I hadn't have a pap smear or lady check up in 5 years or so. Sounds all standard so far. Don't sweat it in my opinion.
@leximonae1k, Your safe my dear ❤️ I’m a nurse and can assure you he/she is only doing it because you’ve simply never had one 🙂 He’s checking for any abnormalities, STIs, cell changes etc.
@beakymcspence, Thank you🙄❤️I was starting to think my doctor was a creep.
@spookylyn, Doctors will do pelvic exams at a 10-12 week prenatal ONLY if your over due for it. Usually they prefer to wait till post delivery to do so. It’s unusual your doctor would do that if your not due. If you’ve never had one before then that’s a different story So yes that’s normal and they will do it ❤️
I have my first dr appointment tomorrow but with my daughter I had the first appointment then they had me schedule an appointment downstairs(which wasn’t until the next week) where I got blood work and an ultrasound
@spookylyn, Girl I thought that was weird too... I felt weird around him the way he touched and looked at me was just off... @mimixtmn, And No I’ve never had a pap smear or pelvic exam ever... It was all just weird to me.
@leximonae1k, we don’t do urine tests here, at least I’ve never. The blood test is probably to see your hcg levels like I mentioned before to make sure your far enough to see on an ultrasound. Levels to test positive on urine are quite low compared to needing to be in the thousands to see something on an ultrasound. Were you due for a pelvic exam?
@leximonae1k so did he just send you to the hospital after for blood work or not at all??
@dazedmama, I wish that’s what I got.. He just asked questions, took some urine and gave me a very uncomfortable pelvic exam🙄🙄🙄But he didn’t have a lab I don’t think. The real hospital was across the street.
@mimixtmn, Well when I went to the doctor the other day they did a urine test. I thought that was to confirm. But I’m just going to go in tomorrow and get that done so I can go get my ultrasound.
My first prenatal they did an ultrasound and like a check up. And then before I left they took like 5 tubes of blood so it was like an all in one. But my doctor at the time had a lab there.
The blood work is usually to confirm the pregnancy as well as see where your hcg levels are because usually if they haven’t hit a certain point nothing will be seen on ultrasound. I have always had blood work then an ultrasound scheduled after.
You know you have children when...
You get to work and notice that your pants have smudges of unidentifiable origin from the knee down. ?
How many days do you have left ?!?
How many days until you're done work- if you're still working ?!

What is everyone's blood work? Those that get it done (I know not everyone does)
Definitely switch if you continue to feel uncomfortable, its important to find an OB you feel comfortable with, it will make the experience of navigating pregnancy that much easier for a first time mom like yourself 👍
