Could someone please advise me on the following:

1. Electric vs Manual Pump and why?

2. Which brand and why?

I’m getting my brain fried from trying to answer this. I do need a pump that I can use while I travel so portability is important

Help please mamas 😖😖😖

@efesmama, You're very welcome! Everyone has different thoughts and opinions on this topic of course but that's just what I've concluded.

@tatsandcats, did you not find that your hands hurt with the manual one?

I have an electric pump for every day use and a manual pump just in case I'm feeling engorged and can't devote a lot of time to an electric pump right at that moment. I had a Medela last time and I didn't like it. Plus it's an open system which can cause contamination. This time around I have a Spectra (closed system) and then the manual pump I got is the Avent one.

I had the spectra s1 because t was rechargeable. At the time, I was spending a lot of time in the car so it was nice that I could charge it and go. Spectra is much more gentle than medela in my opinion. Most women who have tried both pumps will probably agree with me on that

I honestly preferred the manual over my electric. Idk if it was the brand or what but manual was easier and quicker to use.

@deborahjq, thank you very much. I saw Medela actually and it’s got a lot of great reviews

Less parts involved with a manual pump, easier clean up and cheaper. The biggest drawback for most people is that it can be time consuming if it takes you a while to respond to the suction of a pump and it can cause hand cramps as a result.

I personally don't mind it, though I admit on the early mornings when I force myself up to increase my milk output, I kinda regret it...but that's what Netflix is for lol.

As for brands, I've only used Medela so I can't really speak on the other brands. What I do love about the Medela brand is that any extra parts, like the little white flap or whatever, are easy to find.

For travel, some of the electric pumps also can be plugged into a cigarette lighter in a car, so look for that if it's important for you.

Electric pump just means a motor does the work and you stick it to your boob and let it go. A manual pump takes much longer because you have to sit there and squeeze the pump in your hand over and over.. after 5 minutes your hand is going to be hurting. Def get electric for regular everyday use... but I also having a manual hand pump to keep in your purse for emergencies if you are out and about and get engorged. It saved me a few times. As for brands, I’ve heard the most positives about the spectra which I used occasionally
