Any tips, word of advice, for a child with “mild/moderate” Autism going to (public) school for the first time? Really anxious for my 5 year old son to start school on the 27th 😞
How was your child’s first day of school? How did things work out for him/her?
I’m not sure if he will be placed in special needs class or be with the “regular” kids. Hope to find out next Wednesday for orientation!
@mama_kat89, it’s ok! And I’m glad to hear that special ed has been such great help for him! I think knowing he will be in good hands with someone that knows how to be around special needs kids will put my mind at ease. I just overthink little things like what if he has trouble communicating and had an accident or what if he doesn’t listen 😞
@thalia369, I'm definitely upset about it and even his preschool teacher and Iu8 said he should as well last yr.
@autism.mommy, yeah it’s frustrating! I have a feeling my sons pediatrician will react the same if he doesn’t end up in special ed. Cus my son is the same. He gets frustrated really easily and idk if a regular teacher will be able to handle him 😞
@thalia369 Exacally, I said the same but she refused and I was not arguing with her... I know my child and he has major attitude n behavior issues. She's gonna wanna wished she listened to me.
I told his doc cuz she asked today if he was gonna be in Regular or special education she looked at me like really when I said what the school told me and said he needs to be in Special Education
@autism.mommy, that’s good! I hope you’re little one doesn’t struggle too much at school being in a class full of kids different than him. I remember telling the lady at registrations that I specifically wanted my son in special education cus I want everything for him to go well and I just want the best for him and the lady looked so irritated with me but I don’t care cus my sons education is important and I will bug the heck out of them if I have too!
@thalia369 I just said ok. And will see how he does the first semester if his grades are low I will demand him be put into a learning support class.
@autism.mommy, how old is he? I’m scared they’re gonna tell me the same. I want him to be in special ed classes cus they’re a lot smaller and I feel like that be better for him as large crowds can be overwhelming for my son. Just hoping all goes well 😞
This is my son's first yr as well and they refuse to put him in Special Education and said he has to he in Regular class. Till atlest after Christmas brake I'm not to happy about it cuz he is a lil delayed and feel the school setting him up for failer already. 😤😢
@chelleplus3, sorry I just saw this! And my son had limited speech :/
