What's the difference really? My doctor has offered PGD ? Is one better than the other?

Hi soleil how are you getting on? Is you transfer date coming up soon? I had the 5day PGS too, using NGS techniques. There are some great studies and results curves if you are good at googling. I found the key words to use to get the technical studies were those like "euploidy rates" and "aneuploid blastocysts".
I had 4 failed transfer when ttc#2 (including 1mc), so we knew we have bad embryos. Although i am 30, but we have severe male factor. We tested 8 embryos at day 3 and got the result the following day and transferred it on the same day (day 4). We only had 1 normal embryo out of the 8, but thats all we needed to get our bfp.

Lol! Well I'm glad you have a good humor about it... and you still have time to be surprised about the boy or girl! I'm still a few weeks from retrieval but it feels like an eternity. My RE flies down an embryologist for retrievals and transfers two weeks per month so they are getting me on schedule to retrieve sometime in those two weeks in mid April ...
Out of 34 retrieved eggs across the 2 cycles, seven made it to the 5day blast stage, and these were the results:
Monosomy 22
Monosomy 16
Trisomy 15
Monosomy 15
Monosomy 16
One healthy boy
One healthy girl
(no idea which one implanted lol)
Not sure what went wrong during the thaw but they called me when I was on the way to the transfer to ask if they could defrost the 2nd one as well.
Diagnosis...? Knackered 40 year old eggs failing to correctly make one and only one copy of each and every chromosome!
@Liz girl where they able to tell you what the abnormalities were? Wondering what kind of info they will be able to share . Also wondering what leads to the embryos not surviving the thaw??? Such a blessing you were able to get one healthy sticky one! Congrats on the bfp! I just started birth control prepping for retrieval ? i am really positive about this doctor, the embryologist and their lab. Hoping to share a BFP soon :) and wishing you a healthy pregnancy !
I'm 40 and elected to do PGS to avoid another miscarriage. Didn't get any normal embies from the first retrieval, did a 2nd retrieval and got two, one didn't survive the thaw and I'm 8 weeks with the other one :) It is fabulous knowing that genetically it is a solid bean. I've had a couple of episodes of bleeding and it has really helped me to stay positive through them as I know that my pregnancy has good survival odds. Good luck on your journey - it took me 6 months from the 1st IVF consult to BFP but it was worth every day of waiting.
I asked at my last visit and they will be doing PGS . I am thankfully not a carrier of any disease but since I had a blighted ovum (98% chance it was a genetic abnormality) and I want to avoid another miscarriage , suggested PGS to help out. I'm also 35 which puts me in the "older" category but I know it's just a number
PGD: they test for a specific genetic condition such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia. PGS: it is genetic screening where they test for overall chromosomes abnormalities not a specific disease, the look for normal chromosomes copy number. The Dr might have suggest PGD as it is better for your situation? Is there a specific condition that you are checking for?
That is great info and I will absolutely do some googling ! I'm starting my 2nd round of BCP tomorrow, injections start 2nd week in April and My retrieval is scheduled for the last week in April so still a few weeks away! the genetic testing has to be sent to a lab so results take a few weeks, my transfer will be in June ! Feels like an eternity away but at least I will have some time to heal from retrieval. Also I've been exercising and lost 12lbs so far... back to pre-miscarriage weight finally. Now I have a few more weeks to get a bunch more pounds off . I saw your post about graduation hahaha. Very happy for you and baby ? girl ?!!
