Those with experience, which do you think would be the most appropriate, less expensive to care for and easiest to maintain for a 12 1/2 & 3 year old boy: hamster, guinea pig or rabbit?

The 12 year old should be able to handle any of those but the youngsters might have issues. I’m still working with my two almost three year old on how to handle the cat or dogs. Small animals can get injured more easily
@angelfoodcake not long at all. I only put pine in the lil potty no where else, so he only goes in the potty. It's great because when we let him out he's not leaving little turds everywhere lol. & the cage is almost as long as my 9 year old.

Oh & he's potty trained 😜 & doesn't stink as long as u clean out the potty once a wk

Yep I had 3 that were straight evil we had to return them. Also had a couple that got into a fight to the death. One that ran away, lol - never found it. And the one I literally loved - my brother and cousin accidentally broke her back and the surgery was too expensive so she sadly passed. I had her for about 2 years, very sweet indeed.
My hamsters never made it😞 the guinea pig was fun especially after it had babies... super easy for both
@angelfoodcake I've had lots of hamsters and 2 bunnies. Hamsters are definitely less work. I'm severely allergic to guinea pigs so I have no idea about them.
Hamster and guinea pigs seem to be the ideal for kids. Just guinea pigs are annoying at night 😂
Hamster. Just be careful, I had one that had a taste for blood. The rest were fine.
Plus bunnies, you have to be careful not to pull their ears.
@kbbaybee16, my bunny never stunk lol. But we kept his stuff clean and he was box trained lol
