My world my everything my daughter just turned 2 and has been having tantrums especially at the store she throws herself and screams and cries and I try to pick her up and try to get her attention but it makes it worse and people stare like if I’m a bad parent but I don’t get mad because I know she still trying to figure out her emotions but in public it has been constant because she hates being in the cart but I feel like it’s more safe for her and at home yesterday she was throwing fits for anything and was kicking and so mad I tried ignoring and then I tried calling her to me but that didn’t work my husband trying to give her a snack or drink that didn’t work we are on edge on how to deal with her tantrums they are getting worse because we give in please help and I’m due in August with baby number 2 the reason I say that is because yesterday when she was throwing her tantrums I bathed her to see if that would work and I was drying her and she was kicking my stomach locking her self and wouldn’t let me put her clothes on I felt so bad am I doing something wrong ?

Everyone has different ways to deal with tantrums, I found the best way to deal with it is to ignore it. If that doesn’t work after awhile I mention a consequence. “If you don’t stop ____ , then you’re not going to _____ or I’m going to _____.

@thisisdwarren, I don’t use one, but I don’t care if another parent does. As long as the child is happy and safe it shouldn’t matter. I’d rather see a child on a leash than hit on the road or abducted.

Try the peaceful parenting chat room. My son is 2 and throws tantrums at times. Could be hungry, tired, teething etc. I found that if I get down to his level and offer a hug it helps him. Also for the grocery store I just started to let him walk but I tell him to hold my hand and to my surprise it’s working

Actually my son is doing the exact same thing. He has actually started this horrible screechy mad cry when he gets mad . and I'm trying to figure out how to get him to stop . especially in public because he is loud and people look at you like can you not control your child. He is 16 months .

Time out is the only thing that works somewhat for my son. When he has tantrums I give him 3 warnings to stop what he's doing and try to explain why, but if he chooses to not listen then I make him sit in a chair until he's done with his tantrum for however long it takes. Sometimes it takes a couple minutes, sometimes it takes 10 minutes but once he calms down long enough I will explain to him again why he couldn't do something and why tantrums aren't necessary and he usually gets the point. The I tell him he can get up and he'll give me a hug and go about his way playing.

@thisisdwarren, that’s how my husband thinks to but me I think everyone has their way of parenting and what makes them feel comfortable and what fits for their family j mean it helped my aunt but it may not be for everyone I don’t use it because I hold my daughter hand and when she wants to wonder she tries to run and I’m like no baby I can’t so then she sits on floor and won’t get up and laughs so then we end up picking her up and that’s when tantrums start

@glencoco, I am a mom and I did learn one thing that we shouldn’t judge or try to tell other mother how to parent because it may work for some than others the back pack may work for others and may not work for some and my aunt did it with her daughter because she was very active I remind u she had her last child at 48 and so it was hard for her but it helped her but for me I think that if I was to use the back pack thing it wouldn’t help because she locks her self when we hold her hand and think it’s funny so when we pick her up she starts tantrums

@glencoco I don't believe in the backpack leash but some parents do and before I had my child I use to be like wtf then after having him at times I be like shit I understand the damn leash they have for kids but I would still never use it. Leash s are for animals in my opinion

@madalynnelenamom2016 us mom's can only do the best we can. It's a trial and error. Don't think your wrong just because you give in alot. Think that you are strong because you are asking for help. Other parents do not parent your child but you and your husband 😘☺️🤗

@madalynnelenamom2016, I might get shit for this but, try a leash back pack. She can still feel free to run but she can’t go far. Also, just asking might be easier than having her tell you.

@glencoco, I wish my baby could tell me but she can’t say a full sentence yet she says one word or she recently started to say 1 2 3 and e i e i o and wow and daddy she still talks baby language so her telling me is hard but I will be doing the snacks with me while we at store what really starts it that she hates being in cart or even if we are walking and I’m holding her hand she wants to wonder off and I grab her hand so she ends up sitting on floor and laughs so then I pick her up or my husband and she starts crying

Have you tried asking her to call down and talk to you? When Lilly has a meltdown I ask her to calm down, breathe, and tell me why she’s crying. Then I explained to her why she can’t do or have whatever it is she’s crying over. I then offer a distraction. For example say she’s crying at the store because she wants something she can’t have. After having her tell you that’s why she’s crying explain that it’s not in the budget and mommy doesn’t have the money for it. But if she behaves for the rest of the shopping trip she can have a treat at home. Sometimes there’s a different reason behind the tantrum. Like she might cry over wanting a toy, but really she’s just tired or hungry. Being tired or hungry are really the only two reasons Lilly acts out. Try going shopping after a nap or right after breakfast and take snacks with you to keep her occupied.

ETA: I read she doesn’t fully talk yet. Instead of having her say it, ask her. Like “are you crying because you can’t have ____ ?” or “are you crying because you’re ____?” (usually tired or hungry).

@thisisdwarren, it’s so true I want what is best for her I love her with all my heart she my everything i just hate that she gets this way because she upset or mad or any of those feelings and I feel like what am I doing wrong and then especially in public I’m not embarrassed I’m hurt because people look at me and my husband as if we are bad parents or give us ugly looks I makes me feel worse i know now she is still little and doesn’t know and she can’t tell me what’s wrong because she doesn’t talk full sentences but no matter what she is my baby and i think the part I am doing wrong is that I give in

Sometimes I say to my 2 year old boy that that's not okay or hey use your words I don't know what you want unless you tell me. Sometimes I try ignoring it too but then at times he goes to extremely ways and I say oh do you want to stand in the corner or are you done. Other times I say look at me oh, stop now you can not have this later or mommy will ___ . There are times when he just stops after I have talked to him. It's hard when there this age but it doesn't last forever. Be stern with her. Remind her that you are the parent and you only want what's best for her

@glencoco, yes that’s true everyone deals with tantrums differently but I would love any advice on how to deal because it may work for my daughter if I try something new because the sit in time didn’t work for her or the if u don’t stop just makes it worse and trying to comfort her makes her even more mad so I will try any advice that may help I feel so bad that she has these tantrums because i feel like I am not doing something right or maybe I give in a lot as well
