@livinglovinglife, I guess a tip would be just to keep it simple. Find a pretty background and coordinate your dress color, or find a plain background that you'll stand out against.

I didn’t take mine but I found someone with not much experience that was doing mini sessions for $30 and they turned out really good for the price!
