OT.. but how do ebf new moms
get ANYTHING done!? I've been trying to clean my house for 2 months (since dd was born) and it's like 1 step forward and 10 steps back.
I had a similar situation with my dd. For the first few months I just stopped wearing make up and only showered every other day. I couldn't stand a messy house or things not getting done and my husband knew I had a certain way I liked things done and if he helped it normally was "wrong" so I had to do it all. (Lol I am very anal about my house) so I had to make myself get into some what of a schedule while still nursing on demand. I made myself get up about 30 minutes before my dd would normally wake up so I could start laundry and clean up the kitchen. If I had time before she woke up and hubs was still home I would shower. After she woke and I fed her, changed and dressed her I would have her do tummy time for about 5-10 minutes so I could tidy everything else up. At first she hated it but after a few days she started to love it! If I needed or wanted to do anything else during the day I baby wore in a sling or front pack. It helps so so much!!!!!! Cooking was impossible until I figured out baby wearing. After about 3 months life gets easier! I ebf my dd for 6 months before starting her on solids. I continued nursing until 9 months. A lot of moms will say baby wearing causes codependency issues but research actually shows that babywearing creates a stronger bond and stronger trust so that baby learns to be more independent sooner than other children. Good luck hon! I hope some of the advice given on your post helps!
I have a Moby and I ordered a Beco last week. she hates the Moby and I do too. it hurts my back.
we have a really nice swing but she'll only stay in it for like 2 or 3 minutes. we've tried other kinds with no luck.
she just loves to be held. always! lol
Oh man! I remember those days! I used to hold the nursing baby with one hand while doing laundry with the other. And there's just some things you can't do while babywearing so don't get stressed about it. The most improtant job is the baby which you're doing great at. If you happen to get the laundry or dishes done then count that as a bonus :) It get's easier though, by the time Jase could sit up he was fine for a half hour or more but even before that he would play laying down under the gym for at least 20 minutes. I had a really sucky swing for Jase so he hated it & i thought he just didn't like swings, then I put him in my sisters really nice swing & he was instantly falling asleep. You can try out the store models at bru to see if maybe something like that would be good for your family.
Do you have a carrier? I put my daughter in a moby or our boba and get everything done. She's almost 5 mos now and last night I was able to bake a cheesecake, wash dishes, and make cookies while carrying her. Since she's being held close to me, she doesn't feel the need to constantly comfort nurse. It takes getting used to, but you can definitely accomplish a lot while babywearing.
I'm with you on all those things, we are at a point right now where he's super attached and wanting to eat often. The housework has been put on hold lately. I have the Beco and I love it, we just used it to get through the airport when we went out of town last week. You'll love it! Hang in there, there's a lot of us right there with ya!
@bjohnson I don't think so, bcuz she went thru one at 6 weeks and again at 2 months. she is 10 weeks now.
but she does always want to be attached. either eating or comfort nursing. and if not doing that then she wants me to hold her.
I pumped a lot in the beginning to get my supply up. my milk didn't start to come in until I was 7 days postpartum. and it wasn't completely white and thick until 9 days. but once u finally got it in and got a good supply I stopped pumping. then like 3 weeks later I started pumping and giving her 1-2 bottles a day so she could get used to them. I pumped in place of feedings, but my supply dropped. so that's why I'm scared to try again.
And thanks ladies for all your input! I'm just completely overwhelmed right now.
It will get better! Pumping also increased my supply (and held off my period). I never felt like I had a good routine until I stopped breast feeding. With my last son I BF until 13 months. Finally I was able to clean up after each meal without having to go upstairs right away to nurse and put down for nap. I know how you feel and it gradually gets better until one day you will miss all the time with her because you have time to do other things!
Cancab- you might want to consider switching carriers if you're having back problems. What are you using? I've worn my 2yo son in our ergo (both front and back carries) through Disneyland with no problems. Might be time to graduate to a soft structured carrier like the ergo or Beco, if you're using a sling or wrap. Or try a new position. No reason to be uncomfortable!
my lo nurses every 4 hours and i dont get anything done, i can only imagine how it would be if he nursed as much as yours does! babywearing is great, it helps a lot. but if your lo is big like mine, it kills your back! i can only keep him in there maybe an hour before i have to take him out :/
Hang in there. The beginning is the hardest. I EBF my youngest (almost 9 months) on demand. She never took a paci either. I definitely recommend baby wearing. You will love the becco, especially once baby gets used to nursing in it. Also, the cleaning can wait. Your baby is this little for such a short amount of time. With 4 kids I wouldn't get anything done at all without baby wearying. I also am lucky to get 2 showers a week since my dh travels for work and is usually home for 2 days every 2 weeks. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to have your house as clean as it was before baby. You have a much more important job now! You are doing the best thing for your baby, and you will never regret the time and energy you spend on her. :)
I'm afraid to pump and bottle feed because my supply was SO hard to get up. I'm terrified of it decreasing. I want to be able to bf for a year.
it just seems now that she not only wants to eat, but when she's done she wants to use me as a pacifier. and we have dropped a small fortune on binkys and she will not take any that we have tried.
I ordered a Beco the other day, should be here today or monday! yay!
and the only time I fix my hair is when we go to the Dr... so like once a month..? lol
I will blow dry it (or let it air dry) and throw it in a ponytail before I go out, but that's so I don't get sick. but it literally takes me less than 15 mins to dry and flat iron. and I only do my makeup bcuz I don't have anything else I can do while she's eating.
it's just that every time we have to be somewhere, and this never fails, she decides to eat EVERY 45mins - 1hr. idk why or how it happens.. but it does :/

I could have written this!!! My LO is almost a month and the only thing that has helped is co sleeping. She feeds when she needs to. She sleeps better which lets me sleep too. Her early morning feed Ill change her lay back down, feed till she sleeps and then get up and get myself decent for the day. I clean when I can but honestly I have piles of clean clothes in my bedroom that need to bed folded or hung and put away. My dh is military and he's away a lot so my sleep is the only thing that keeps me sane.
