Proper discipline for a one year old? I seriously don’t know... he doesn’t know “no” too well. We try to pull him away from what he’s doing and teach him that way but he goes right back to it. He has this thing where he thinks he can get away with anything with Mommy and daddy but doesn’t do it with grandma. What can we do?
Consistency is definitely key. With my son we started with the word “no” of course he really didn’t want to listen so we would count to three and if he didn’t stop he would get one hand swat or one spanking. Unfortunately that doesn’t phase my son so we started putting him in his crib for a timeout so he went into his crib for 2/5 minutes or until he stopped crying. Now he is to the point where I can look at him if he does something wrong and tell him to go to his room until he stops crying and he does he will take himself to his room and cry it out and come out when he is all better.
@shayswayy, I was more so saying that in reference to other suggestions. Unfortunately it’s hard to get toddlers to listen, my son is 15 months & drives me nuts getting into things he has no business getting into but just remain consistent with what you’re doing. Patience & consistency are key.
@olivbee, I’m not going to “whoop” him. I was spanked and I don’t think it really does anything. It’s just he’s hard of hearing because of fluid in his ears and has been since he was littler (which will hopefully be fixed soon with tubes) so it’s really hard to get him to listen. It’s more of a thing where we just grab him away from what he’s doing and sit him down but he just thinks it’s okay to continue doing it. This particular problem was him climbing on the coffee table. We don’t want him to think it’s okay to climb on furniture especially when he’s in public. Couches are fine because he sits when he climbs up but standing on furniture we don’t want him doing.
I definitely don't say beating a one year old but my daughter fully understans what she is doing especially if she's looking to see if anyone is watching her before she does it. Time out doesn't work in my family. Every family is different in how they train their child(ren).
Please do not whoop your one year old baby’s ass. I would say redirect him if he doesn’t listen to “no” the first couple times. He’s still learning, I think punishment would be better suited for an older child who knows better.
We used timeouts and repetition. It's usually a minute per age, so 60sec is what we did then. It worked for him, actually, and now he stays put, even though the threat of timeout is sometimes enough to curb his behavior.
Do NOT beat your 1 year old . They don’t understand they are just exploring. Be consistent and try to redirect instead of saying no. He’ll get it just have patience
Ass whooping and explaining in depth why & reminding him that I love him. Worked for me !
Instead of saying No all the time I started saying "Not nice!" with a slight pop on the hand.
Consistency is the key. My daughter is extremely strong willed. In my family we believe in a pop on the hand or leg as well as a firm no and being pulled away from whatever it maybe. Example... She isn't allowed in the kitchen when she tries to come in I will tell her no kitchen and sit her outside and begin to walk away. If she tries to come in again I repeat once again. By the second time she fully understands because she will try to push the boundaries and inch her way in. I then pop her hand or leg say no and sit her out of the kitchen. By then she doesnt try to come in for a while but maybe later will try to walk in after someone. Everyone has to give the same instructions so they know they can't try to push the boundaries with one and not another.
Time outs, if it doesn’t work tell him you’re going to spank him, when he doesn’t listen count to three then get up and spank him, not too soft and not too hard just to the point where he understands that you’re serious
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
@itsamemario, you deleted your post before I could hit send but this is my comment: I don’t know if this answers your question but this is my answer.
My son is 7 and he knows race and color. Why? Because he himself comes from a family that is multi racial and because he has already experienced racism. I also believe as his mother it’s my job to teach him color and the cold hard truth about society. He knows what’s going on in this world. I’d be hurting him if I allowed him to blindly walk out...
Make your own breakfast!
At what age do you think a child should be making their own breakfast? I have a 10 year old and I think he is perfectly capable of making himself breakfast. It doesn't take rocket science to put some waffles into the toaster, or microwave some pancakes. My husband insists that he needs to have breakfast made for him because if we left it up to him he wouldn't eat enough and it would take him forever.
does anyone else SO don't really mess with there newborn? its like my boyfriend wont take the time out to bond with him😞 he says because he never been around babies an don't know what to do even though i tell him what he can do with him.
Look up conscious discipline for 1 year old. It's what the daycare teachers working on military daycares use. Doesn't involved anything physical.
