Question for moms of older children

Question for moms of older children

My daughter will be 12 soon, she has expressed deeply on how she wants to be present through the entire labour and delivery of her youngest sister. She would like to be as involved as she possibly can; she would like to “catch” her baby sister.

Any moms have their eldest help deliver baby, and if so what’s your story?

This will be my third natural birth but I am nervous I may not be able to control how loud I get or that it may be too intense. Or that I may not fulfill her expectations...

I would like this to not only go as smooth for me and baby as possible for labour. But I want it to be a positive experience she’ll remember as that for ever...

@samanthalynnshaw21, Thanks! My mother will be at the hospital with the younger. We’ve watched birthing videos, we’ve definitely talked above it all, she’s also been to appointments; she feels prepared lol I’m just hoping to hear other stories of those that have experienced this :) alittle insight I suppose of the expectations vs. Reality of the actual experience

Ive never been in this situation, but explain to her about your past experiences. And just be honest about the pain, and sounds that you might make. If she is still intrested in being apart of the birth thats fantastic. I would also have someone there waiting in case it got to intense for her that she could go and wait until after the birth.

My friends oldest daughter wanted to be there for her as well, my friend wasn’t sure at first because of her being only 13 but she told her daughter if you want to that’s fine. But when she got to the hospital they wouldn’t allow her daughter in. Most hospitals in Canada have rules about the L&D room they ask for people to be over 16 years old. If you want her there check with the hospital first

Will your Mom be in the delivery room?

Will your Mom be in the delivery room? My mom made it sound like she was gonna be in the delivery room when I give birth, and quite frankly, I would just like it to be me and my fiancé. It's our first, and I want to share that special moment with just him. I don't want to hurt her feelings, and I know this is something she would really like to be a part of. So I feel bad telling her no.

What would you do? - baby shower

What would you do? - baby shower SO my mom has been very negative about the baby my entire pregnancy. Especially in the beginning, she said the most HORRIBLE things about me, my DH and my unborn baby. Like that I was making a big mistake, that I was making her 2015 the worst year ever... etc etc. Even when she would do nice things she made me feel like I was a HUGE inconvenience and a burden to her. She told me to definitely NOT expect a shower or anything like that from her. Fine, whatever, I don't need her, I didn't have this baby for her to raise. I'm married, living on my own and paying all my own expenses.

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page
