Any other Houston, Texas mamas with a child on the Autism Spectrum? 😊💙
My son is 4 years old, turning 5 in August and he is currently on the waiting list to be properly diagnosed even though we know he is! Just want to follow any other Houston mamas on their Autism journey with their little ones!
Not at all truly:) ask away.
With my daughter we met at a park and he watched her play and wrote notes then he came and asked me questions, she doesn't attend school or preschool yet but if she had then the observation would have been done there and they would have asked the child care provider questions. They basically want to see how they go in a play setting.
My daughter had no idea an observation was taking place as they just stood back and watched, they are pretty good at what they do so are really caring and helpful.
@amk212, it sounds so overwhelming but I know it’s what’s best for our little ones. So for the social observation do you know what they do? I’m sorry I’m asking so many questions! I just have no one to talk to about this kind of stuff 😔
Nice to meet you too, the place where we are going through do an initial intake appointment which goes for 60-90 minutes where you chat about current concerns and they watch your little one play. At that appointment it was determined to do the ASD assessment, our next appointment was parents only where you get asked 240 questions, followed by a social observation (60-90 minutes) then ADOS (an appointment for her with an assessor) then 2 weeks later we get the report and follow up (diagnosis time). From that point on they determine what help your little one needs and then you do a whole heap of paper work (for us to get help through the NDIS for funding and so on).
@amk212, nice to meet you all! If you don’t mind me asking, how do the assessments go? I’m pretty nervous for when he’s going to get diagnosed and although we live in seperate countries, I’m sure the assessments are similar!
Not from Houston (from Australia) but currently going through the assessment process (1 last assessment to go), my daughter is 5.
Our two year old has a spectrum of autism she is going on 3 in September she doesn't talk we use sign language she know: more,water,Finnish,fork,stop/,waiting,food and that were we are the wait list for occupational therapy we are from Sydney Australia
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
❤️Getting to know you❤️
Since our May group is growing strong and we have a lot of new mommies joining and sharing their bfp's...Thought it will be fun to get to know each other as we all share our pregnancy journey!

We've Just had our final assessment today, waiting for the reports to work out what level but definitely ASD. Explains why life has been so hard for both her and us.
