Anyone else have a dog that’s become aggressive toward guests since baby was born? We have a 3 year old Australian Shepherd and she’s just the sweetest thing. We got her at 9 weeks old and she’s been great. We have other (older) children, a 16 yr old who lives with us and a 9 and 10 year old who stay with us part of the summer. Since our baby was born in September, our dog will bark and growl at anyone who comes in the house and has even snapped at some of our nieces and nephews, who are 8-13 yrs old. She loves the baby and I think she is trying to protect him, but I’m nervous that when my step kids come this summer she won’t be nice to them. How do I get her to be the dog she is when she’s at home with just our family? She’s calm and fun loving and great with us. Enter “intruder” and she’s a different dog 😞
@blakeslatinmama, it’s like she can’t hear us when someone walks in. It’s the same way when she chases cars. Those are the only two things that make her go nuts. Any other time she is fully trained and listens to commands always. She’s not been socialized much but I’m nervous that she will bite someone now. I’m going to find a trainer so this doesn’t spiral out of control. She gets lots of exercise as we live on a farm so she has plenty of space to run and play. That’s probably also why she isn’t as social because there is no one but us for miles. 😒
@lnkedupmommy, she sleeps downstairs away from the bedrooms in a crate that we attached a play area to the front of it.
Australian Shepard’s are known to be extremely territorial. You for sure need to make sure you are working with her to change that because it can cause serious trouble. Try socializing her more and let her burn off lots of energy when you all are out.
@peachnf, oh okay because then im like yeah has to be that, hmmm so strange
