Where I live - NJ; we can’t put anything on the curb if it’s not in proper city garbage bags - otherwise it won’t be picked up. We do get once a month “bulk” pick up - and it’s for the dressers, mattresses and similar things. We can’t even put our garbage out until 5pm the night before.

And in no way I was implying your house or yard are messy. Sorry if it came up that way.

@patrycjalai here in Pennsylvania in my area anyway that's just what it is people put their stuff out on the curb all the time. It's the same thing with trash once you set your trash out on the curb for trash day it's no longer your problem. If it's large stuff like mattresses dressers TV stands for example you do have to go and buy a tag to put on it . As long as you follow the guidelines for trash day no one cares what's out on the curb. Where we just recently moved from you had to have your trash in their Borough bags. If you didn't they would go through the trash to find which house it came from and put a note on your door and they would leave the trash there. I've never put anything out of my crib for free I've always just taking it to my local Salvation Army. We have a house about 3 Doors Down that constantly has piles of crap out in front of the street.

@patrycjalai everyone in my neighborhood does this. We even have ppl drive by on trash day to pick up all the scraps. I posted a curb a letter on fb. My yard is NOT trashy and I take great pride in how my yard and house looks. And I appreciate when this is done in situations where it is needed.

@mommiesaremagical14, that would make sense but then imagine everyone putting their shit out on the street claiming it’s not their issue anymore.

I am actually a fan when department of public works does that. I hate seeing my neighborhood loitered with things.

I would just put it on your lawn OP and put a bigger sign that says free. We also use our town consignment Facebook page to get rid of things. Usually selling everything we don’t want for a $1.

Well that's BS. I would call those people and tell them that you're not littering you put it out on a public curb with signs letting people know that they can have them for free. You're obviously not breaking any laws and they can take their note and shove it.

Seriously? It's out on the curb. It's no longer on your property it's no longer yours or your responsibility. Did you put a sign on it that says free?
