@bellylove44, yes I listed the current ACOG terms. Prior to 37 weeks is premature.
@laniejay it's not premature. Baby wont go to NICU if healthy it's considered EARLY TERM they changed regulations in the US and other countries are different too.
I regret getting a membrane sweep done. I feel it made my labour far more painful. Unless it’s medically necessary or there’s any issues you may be having, I would let your body do what it needs to do. I feel it would’ve made things a heck of a lot easier for me if I had left myself alone.
I had a sweep at 40 weeks with my first and then again at 41 weeks. Born that day :) healthy almost 5 year old now.
With my second I had one 36.5 weeks and again at 37.5 weeks. It was a really rough pregnancy and the dr said babe was ready. He was born that day at 6lbs 8oz. :) very healthy 3 1/2 year old now :)
Just talk to your dr about it :) he/she will know what is best :)
Good luck and try to enjoy :)
I had a stretch & sweep today at 38+3 but I’m measuring 41 so I don’t know if that contributed!
Yes 37 and up is considered term not 36. Under 37 is considered a premie.
I just got back from the hospital and they do consider you full term at 37 weeks just saying
I’m in Canada 36 weeks is not term and never has been to my knowledge. My daughters were born at 36 weeks 6 days and 37 weeks 5 days neither were considered term. A lot of obs in Canada will not do a stretch & sweep until 39 weeks at least as they usually won’t even check for dilation until then unless there is reason to. As well as you can’t really just request one if your doctors thinks it’s a safe option for you they will offer it around 39-40 weeks. My dr wouldn’t until I was past my due date.
@samanthjennings92, I’m a nurse on the L&D ward in Alberta, and across the academic board in Canada 36 weeks isn’t full term, but 37 weeks plus is. I’m guessing if that’s what you were told maybe your dates were off. With my daughter I had her at 37 weeks and when she came out the doctor said she looked like a baby who was postterm or over due, so it’s very possible they had your dates wrong too! Usually like mentioned above if it’s favourable your doctor will offer it 🙂 You can ask closer to your date and they’d likely advise.
@beakymcspence, @laniejay, well idk where you guys are from. My daughter was born at 35 weeks 6 days and I was told if I had of carried one day further she would have been considered full term. But to each there own. I’m in no rush to get the baby out. I just never made it far enough last time to know about stretch and sweeps so I was curious as to when you could ask for them or IF you even asked for them.
@laniejay, Completely correct, 36 weeks is still considered premature here on the L&D ward. We consider full term 37+ preferably 38 and up though. Some women go to 41 or even 42 weeks so you’ve still got some baking time left momma.
@laniejay, she is just tired. @samanthjennings92, Just relax and rest for the remaining weeks. When Baby comes, you’ll up at night.
@laniejay, full term is 36 weeks. I’m a week away. And was in no rush. Was just curious as to when you could ask for one. Was all
Btw we have the same name but mine is spelled Lainey
