This random lady told me I shouldn't bath the first 6 weeks after birth because my pores are open. My mom and I looked at each other and started laughing because we thought she was joking nope she was dead serious.

My MIL is Mexican, so I get told LOTS of wivestales.

-drinking cold liquids will hurt the baby

-you can't brush your hair after birth for a week or so because your skull is open

-babies/toddlers need something sweet after they get hurt or scared

-if they're crying, it must be because you're starving them (maybe that's just my MIL) because babies/toddlers don't JUST cry

-cover your belly up for eclipse or your baby will be taken/deformed (superstition)

-dont go past cemetaries or same as above

Theres more and one my MIL said the other day but I ignore people's pointless advice at this point, or laugh later. Just sucks because people really believe this. Mix of uneducation and tradition.

It's CRAZY how many people don't know that you're really not supposed to do that. To be honest before this app (4 years ago) I thought it was perfectly fine too due to elderly family members not knowing that people don't do that anymore. My mamaw had 6 kids and she was advised by her Dr. all those years to take it so when I told her about it she was SHOOK lol I'm glad I found this app pre-babies. Although I'm not one who tries to bring baby before she's ready as is, at least I now have the knowledge to pass to other moms who truly don't know better!

Op that’s crazy the things they come up with ?I never had heartburn and my ds was born with long thick black hair, all the nurses were completely taken with him saying they never seen a baby with so much hair, I could’ve put it up in a little ponytail if I had wanted too...

My mom never had heartburn with any of us kids and I was born the same as ds with thick long black hair and she did put mine up in ponytails ?

It’s crazt the old wives tales that the other generations actually still fully believe, it’s like welcome to the 21st century people....

My mil told me when ds was 2weeks old that I have to let him cry cause it’s good for his lung development, and if he won’t cry to pinch him really hard to make him cry, I told her that I will not abuse my child and the fact she even said that is sick and cruel...

She also believe that holding your baby will spoil him, I picked him up and held him everytime he was upset or crying (sahm) his whole life never once did I let him cry without comfort.

well my ds is now 3yrs old in two days, he is independent plays quitely by himself I can leave or go into another room without him getting upset and he has never come running to the door crying or needing me, he will just continue to play happily without me, he’ll i can even go take a shower without any interruption...

He is also a huge snuggler loves to curl up with me or dad...

My nephew sils boy is 5 months older then ds (sil listened to mils advice to the letter) cry’s screams if she’s out of eyesight, will not play in his own if sil isn’t right there he will scream and break things, sil will just let him scream as she will not “spoil” him....

I feel so bad for him as he has huge panic anxiety based panic, he will just scream so much... he acts out all the time hitting himself when he’s to tired to scream, hits and bites everybody, and a whole lot more but this post is already long.

And I haven't heard of the vacuum theory, but I was told not to raise my arms above my head or the cord would be wrapped.

@ttdub my mom was told not to vacuum while pregnant but she was pregnant with twins and that was 36 years ago lol. I have to think about this one because it’s been a long time since I’ve been pregnant

My MIL told me to Give my 1 month old water. It's too hot to only drink formula. Have my baby in a sleeper and covered with thick blanket inside a house with no ac because she's cold since baby's can't control their temperature.

One of my weird old man regulars told me you could get pregnant with a 2nd baby in your 7th month of pregnancy. This was with my first pregnancy in 2011-12. Still the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

When I was pregnant, a man told me not to have a C-section because I wouldn't be able to bond with or have a good relationship with the babies. I didn't take that advice, but it wasn't really up for debate. My two babies seem as if they like me, and I'm pretty fond of them too, so I'm thinking we'll be okay.

I was told not to stand on my tiptoes, or I'd risk having a cross-eyed baby. I was also suffering so badly with heartburn, I thought I might die from it and everyone said it was because of baby having lots of hair. They were nearly bald. They're nine months old now, and just starting to look a little less like Caillou. Praise God for that!

My mil told me that I needed to stop nursing at 6 months old cause that's when the baby would get a tooth. (Cause Apperantly there is a correlation to teeth and breastfeeding?)

My nana told me that I needed to make my husband a hot meal every night and give into his 'manly needs' any time in order to have a long marriage.

I was told I couldn't vacuum during pregnancy cause it would wrap the cord around baby's neck.
