Bad latch :(
Ugh I feel like my LO's latch is even worse than before. He will not flange his lips out at all.. I had an assessment today done and he has a lip tie but no tongue tie so we will be getting it lasered on Thursday but I don't know if that's going to fix the bottom lip issue. He constantly moves it right up to my nipple even when I've moved it back out.. It's such a struggle and I'm 8 weeks in and it seems like it's just getting worse. My nipples are getting really sore again. I've seen the lactation consultant many times and as soon as I get home it all goes to s*** .. Don't know what to do anymore... I don't think I can deal with a year of this pain, not to mention because his latch is so bad he inhales tons of air and has horrible tummy and gas pains... Any advice ?

I'm sorry :(. I only lasted 9 weeks breastfeeding and ended up mostly pumping for that time frame because I was so sore. Looking at my girl now I think she has an upper lip tie which explains all the suffering. She is formula fed now and is doing great and finally my boobs are happy. Will he take a bottle? Maybe pumping and bottle feeding would work for you to give the nips a break. And maybe after his lip is lasered his latch will improve.

Thanks ! I really hope that fixing the tie will help. He won't take a bottle because he honestly had no idea how to suck on it lol and will not take a pacifier for the same reason. It's so awkward he just moves the nipple from side to side and gums it and it constantly pops out of his mouth.

It does sound like he has a tight tie. Coral clicks and loses a lot but is able to suck and hold a pacifier. Have you tried bottles with different nipple shapes? She didn't know what to do with some of them but she figured out dr browns right away. At first I just had to direct the bottle nipple to the roof of her mouth. I'd suggest a nipple shield but it doesn't sound like he needs to suck more air. You could syringe feed if you really need a break and bottles don't work

The tie release will help but also the exercises to retrain the latch. I used a bottle and soother to help with the training on top of the exercises they gave us.
His latch is a million times better but I've also got a forceful let down so we had to adjust for that too.
*hugs* thursday is only a few days away.
