GBS positive.... Struggling with what to do
Hey ladies, so I am GBS positive and my midwife gave me three options.. We can not have any medication at all (1 in 100 chance of baby developing an infection).. We can get the medication (1 in 4000 chance of baby developing an infection.. But could cause yeast infection and oral thrush in baby) or I can wait until I'm in labour and if I develop another risk factor (spike a fever) then I can get the medication... I honestly don't know what to do.. Just wondering if any of you ladies struggled with the same decision ? I know with OB's they generally make the decision for you, but with midwives they allow you to make the choice. Any help is appreciated !

They didn't give me a choice. I just got the antibiotics. Honestly I would've got them anyway especially because my water broke 10 hours before he was delivered. Babies can get really sick from GBS. Thrush can be annoying but is generally not harmful to baby or mom. It's not worth the risk in my opinion.

I have always been gbs positive. This is my fourth. All four labors I get two doses of antibiotics. I have never had a problem with thrush or yeast infections but my babies have never had problems with gbs infection either which is definitely a higher concern. I could deal with a little yeast infection or thrush. The risk is a lot higher for the baby if you don't get the antibiotics.

Get the antibiotics!!!!!
My first baby almost died from untreated GBS.
I was tested at 37 weeks and the test came back negative. I had my son at 39 weeks and he was sick right away. He was a very sick little guy and we are lucky he is living. Just take the antibiotics it's not worth the stress or risk of your baby getting sick or dying.

Wow thanks ladies. I was learning towards getting the antibiotics so I think you guys have helped me make my final decision of getting them.

My baby got the antibiotics and developed thrush. Antifungal meds knocked it out in a week

I chose antibiotics during labor as well. Rather baby be somewhat covered than not. We were both fine and no complications from the meds whatsoever. Gd luck!

I found out I'm Positive as well (first time) and I'm getting the antibiotics during labor because a yeast infection is really simple to treat!

I would get the antibiotics because if baby comes out and is infected then he will get antibiotics pumped straight into his system. If you get them during labor, baby will get them but only after your body breaks it down for him.
I HATE going on meds unless it is absolutely 100% necessary, but in this case I would've gotten the antibiotics if I had been GBS+

I had it with my son I had antibiotics and he was still very ill didn't get enough in his system. I would honestly say get them without a doubt my son ended up in scbu for almost 2 weeks and it was awful.

@tara that's awful :( I'm so sorry. His illness was directly related to the GBS??
