baby proofing
We all know the main things... Outlet covers. No small objects within reach. Furniture ties. And so on. But what are all the little things you didn't think of until after the fact? Or things you would remind a first time mom as her baby is nearing the crawling stage.
omg the dog food and water get dumped daily i put it up then i forget to put back and the poor thing doesn't have access i have no idea how to deal with this plus my floor is getting ruined from the water. i have no other place to put it that the dog can access wheat do other ppl do
Fun fact. Check your electrical code but where I’m from but where I’m from the code for outlets are they have to have the block in so you can’t put things in the outlet and get electrocuted. I didn’t know it till an electrician told me. So you don’t need to put those plastic things in.
@smm its because of the top pin. The top pin when inserted moves something which completes the circuit. So if there's nothing plugged in the curcuit is broken and nothing will happen, but if the cover is plugged in its a live curcuit but not conducted by the plastic. So if the top pin snaps off when in the socket it's still live and then can be dangerous
I would wait and see what your child is like before you invest in things... we didn't do much at all. We had a stair gate as the stairs are very very steep, and a lock on the kitchen cupboard where cleaning supplies are, and the knife drawer.... but don't think anything else.
My daughter was not the type to climb on things, open cupboards, etc etc. She would listen when we told her not to touch our stuff etc. I don't really believe in using stuff like corner softeners for furniture... they just need to learn to deal with the obstacles in their house safely.
HOWEVER, I'm not boasting she's perfect here, it's just how she is. I know kids are wired differently and I've had friends kids here trashing the place, and it's just how their personality is! Expecting a boy next so we'll see how this one goes in terms of an investigative nature!!
Toilet locks or remember to always shut your bathroom doors
I can't count the times where I've reminded family or friends to shut the bathroom doors behind them.
Keep all cleaners out of reach. Lock cabinets and outlets (which you mentioned already). Mount dressers, television's or anything that could fall over. You'd be surprised what a little one can pull over. Knives and other sharp objects should be kept out of reach (I know that one is obvious but again, you'd be amazed how they can climb and get into things). Strings from blinds should be folded and kept high (I keep mine folded neatly on the top blind completely out of reach even though they're designed already to prevent choking/strangulation). Doors locked to where they can't sneak out, chain or sliding locks also.
Our kitchen cabinets and drawers in the restroom are my daughters favorite so we got the locks. We also had to install the door knob covers because she like to slam doors and open them to slam them some more. I will say my husband hates the door knob ones because he can never get the front door locked/unlocked from inside the house
Just bought a thing to baby proof the refrigerator. Our daughter is two and couldn't get the door open so I hadn't worried about it. This morning, I was changing the baby and then went to the kitchen to start breakfast and found our daughter with the fridge door open pulling an egg out of the carton. Apparently now she can open the fridge lol
Dog food/water or cat food/water. Cabinet doors, cords for blinds. I'll come back and add more as I think of them!! Anchor all furniture (I think u said that already), sharp edged things, stairs, doors (we put a high up lock like a hotel so they can't get out accidentally (my oldest did that once, so scary)
I have a 5 yr old, 1 yr old, and 16 weeks pregnant
Stairs (we have a trilevel)
Medicines (I used to keep them in the nightstand but now have to use the medicine cabinet)
Cleaners are on a high shelf now
Dishwasher pods are kept on top of the fridge
I ditched the coffee table all together. I don't have to worry about baby bumping head on corners and gives them a lot of room to learn to walk and crawl
A lock on the utility room door (my son would go in there and bang on the furnace)
I have no glass or ceramic decor
Had to change bedroom door knobs because they all locked from the inside (not fun when your 1 yr old locks themselves in their room lol) or one day my nephew locked all the doors and closed them smh
Light bulbs that don't get hot
I need to figure out what to do with the microwave. Son figured out how to turn it on last week
Shorten the cords on blinds because they are a strangulation hazard.
Toss out any of those sideways sliding blinds. My son has trashed them. Now they won't open lol. I didn't like them anyway. Just haven't ditched them since we bought the house. Kids like them because they make a lot of noise.
Bolt lock on all outside doors. Once they can reach the knob they're easy to open. My friend lost her kids to cps because they went outside and walked to the park while she was in the shower.
Obviously a lot of this stuff is not right away but more as they become toddlers.

I have to buy every single thing for my baby, I wonder what is a good budget. would 1000 dollars be enough to buy all the essential things you would normally get at a baby shower

Moms,
What was the first thing you did when you found out you were pregnant👶🏽? We're working on a new blog post and possible video, and we would love to hear from you. what all do you pack for baby for the hospital?
The only thing I've ever baby proofed was the cabinet under the sink. 99.99% of our cleaning stuff is safe (we use lots of vinegar and baking soda) but I don't want wee ones around the rubbing alcohol, dish pods, and peroxide. Oh and a baby gate at the top of the stairs.
